How difficult/competitive is it to get a fighter slot in the Marine corps?

Also recommend you spend some time reading up on the forums that are somewhat specific to these topics: Anal Naviation, er, Naval Aviation: airwarriors.com USAF: baseops.net and airforceots.com Probably every question you might ask, and several you wouldn't, have been asked and answered there.

    Long EZ jet crashed

I wonder where this leaves John Albritton's jet EZ project. It was also a "Jet Guys" project. I flew with John at the airlines before he retired, but I haven't seen much about his project since the crash.

Looking for Advice on Career Change. 25 Yrs Old. Burned Out?

That's all fair commentary, but my point was that the "move up the ladder" exciting job that he seems to crave may not be what it seems, especially as life priorities change over time. I used to crave that too, and ultimately found it an empty and unfulfilling pursuit. One route offers...

Just like rock stars, porn stars, movie stars, and professional athletes....at some point, it all just becomes a job.

B-17 Down at Bradley Int'l Airport

The CAF B-17 that usually tours and gives rides is Sentimental Journey, which is based in Arizona. The other B-17s that tour have been with the Liberty Foundation...formerly Liberty Belle (before it caught fire), then they leased and toured "The Movie Memphis Belle", then this year they were...

Looking for Advice on Career Change. 25 Yrs Old. Burned Out?

If this is your core hangup, then you may be right that the industry isn't for you. Here's what I will offer: what you want out of work and life in your 20s is probably not the same as what you will want in your 30s and definitely not the same as what you will want in your 40s. I spent my 20s...

Looking for Advice on Career Change. 25 Yrs Old. Burned Out?

What, specifically, is it about the airline work or lifestyle that you dislike? What, specifically, would you desire to have in another career that is missing in the airlines? I think there are a lot of people who enter the professional aviation career field in love with an idea of what the...

Roy Halladay's Icon A5 down off of Tampa Coast

In controlled, proscribed doses and which you have to report each use to your flight doc, which is documented. They're not just out there freely blazing on speed in a combat zone.

some very good lessons on loss of control etc

Gryder runs his mouth quite a lot on social media, and often without knowing any of the actual facts. That being said, his unformed analysis of that one incident is not a reason to immediately discount what he's saying overall in that video.

some very good lessons on loss of control etc

I always appreciated when CFIs would show me something *new* on a Flight Review. Something that wasn't a PTS maneuver, but was useful in advancing my airmanship. Most pilots are trapped in their own slice of aviation, and trapped doing things "how they're done" in those little slices of the...

some very good lessons on loss of control etc

Scott Perdue has some good content about loss of control and recovery on his channel, too. Among the many things he's done, he used to run an upset recovery course and some of his video content is from that material. https://www.youtube.com/user/scottperdue476/videos

Flew a T-6 "mixed-reality" simulator, then crashed the T-38 version

Don't feel bad -- most actual T-38 students are pretty good at executing "barrel dives", too.

"Overhead to the initial", say what?

This is the typical way to break up a USAF 4-ship, too.

"Overhead to the initial", say what?

Yes, I think the mil guys understand what MARSA is *supposed* to be, but he's saying that some controllers (when breaking up an existing formation) ask to "confirm MARSA" before giving out the individual clearances for the flight members.

Fighter-jet spotting at "Star Wars Canyon"

It does. The T-38As and Bs had stair-stepped G limits based on fuel weight (which were obviously artificial guideposts on what is actually a smoothly sloped chart). Thanks to the wonders of computing technology, the T-38C has an "actual" real-time calculated G limit based on weight and dynamic...
