How else are you going to get to the Keys?

    Formation Flying Clinic

Yeah, I suppose price point would be regionally driven. Just so we're apples to apples on this, is that 2 hours driving or flying? Is that $600-800 with your own bird or a wet rental included? Yeah, love of the game is what I'm shooting for. Bucket list item/safety is sort of the realm I...

Rookie Mistake: Trashed my favorite PJ's

I solo'd in 2003. I then left the area in 2004, and didn't return to the school until this past summer. My shirt-back was STILL hanging on the wall. Very cool tradition. Congratulations! Now onto the neat stuff.

    Formation Flying Clinic

POAers, I have been thinking of the prospect of putting on a formation flying clinic. Is this something that anybody here has seen in the past? Is there a market for such a thing out there? I teach forms on the regular at my day job, and can fly forms in my sleep. I and another instructor...

    10 Hours Multi Time Building

That is true. About 10 hours. That fact got muddled just a bit as I spitballed some options for overcoming geographical challenges, but that's the bottom line. Looking for a partner (already rated in category and class)to split the cost and hood time.

    Will General Aviation Survive

The feeling I get is that there is a large interest in GA, but there are no modern aircraft, and the small flight school owners (1 to 15 aircraft) are not the greatest marketers or managers. Properly capitalize a flight school and professionally manage and market it and you will see some sparks...

Ifr finisher course in their plane or stick with the club

Once you have it down you'll really like it. It'll make your checkride easier. I swear. Especially if your plane isn't equipped with DME.

Ifr finisher course in their plane or stick with the club

Just my two cents...I would use the club plane. I'm guessing AF does the insurance dance often for their finish-up course. And which Garmin product are you leary about? Is it a glass panel or just a GPS. Your club is eventually going to install a 430 or 530 in your plane anyway.

    10 Hours Multi Time Building

I agree that it's probably not a cheap proposition if you're not already looking for 10 hours of ME time. If you're still curious, PM me what you think it might be worth to you and maybe we can work something out even if it is short of 10 hours. FWIW, the Mooney can chew through the 200NM from...

    10 Hours Multi Time Building

Nah. I need ME PIC to get to my MEI ride.

    10 Hours Multi Time Building

We can split that time, too. Or we can knock out a BFR or IPC, etc, if you need one. Won't be free, but it'll be much cheaper than walking in to your local flight school.

    10 Hours Multi Time Building

I'm out of New Bern (KEWN). I can likely be convinced to come get somebody in my much cheaper option (buddy's Mooney).

    10 Hours Multi Time Building

I'm looking for about 10 hours of Multi time building sometime in January '17. I am in Eastern North Carolina and I have a Seminole that goes for $170 dry. We can probably find fuel in the $3-3.50/gal range. Let's split it. You can be left seat the whole time. I have a strong instrument, night...

    Scenario: Engine Failure on Takeoff

Dump Suck Point Land. There's your checklist. Lower the nose for best glide. This would be the dump. Suck up the gear if it's down. Point the plane where you now are intending to land. Land. Run the landing checklist but with fuel and mixture off and with prudent timing on the gear.

Lost communication scenario and minimum altitude to fly.

So now that we're over this dense, ludicrous notion that we fly to the airport and then back out to an IAF, next time if you know that conditions will dictate an approach, put the IAF you would want to fly from if you were lost comm in the route block when you file. Practically, filing direct...

    MOA comms

Whatever you do, call them. You don't have to be all official sounding with your communication. Just remember the guy on the other end is most likely another pilot in a little shack next to the duty runway with a lawn chair, a PB&J, and a radio. Actually two radios because any traffic in the...

    Why not foam?

All of your problems are solved. It pushes everybody out pretty much immediately, and has the added bonus of keeping the main cabin nice and buoyant...so you can cling to the outside of your plane.

    Flight Service

Calling LM for a briefing and to file has gotten MUCH less painless since they took it over in '04 or '05. It's nice to talk about the weather and the forecasting products with a cup of coffee in my hand. Talking to the FSS guy while airborne makes my eyes and ears bleed.
