    FAA/PPL and Med Cert

I thought I was healthy until I went for my 3rd class medical. Got denied in June. A couple of weeks later I get a letter from OKC "submit paperwork within 30 days if you want a reconsideration." I get the paperwork submitted in August. I get a letter back around the end of September "we...

    Special Issuance questions

Your information (in both posts) is EXACTLY what I was looking for and how I *THOUGHT* I had read it. It's nice to get the confirmation. When I asked about "other documents", I get needing the reports asked for in the SI letter, I didn't know if I needed an "application" or something like...

    Special Issuance questions

I'm pretty sure it will. I guess I just had it my head that I had to hold SOME med certificate before doing Basic Med, but I guess I have that now.

    Special Issuance questions

Thanks. Do I have to wait to get the information IN June (not just turn into the AME)? Or if I get the data in the middle of May, will that suffice? I guess it's up to the AME. What I was thinking was schedule appointments with my treating physicians the first week in June and an...

    Special Issuance questions

After months of waiting, I finally got my 3rd Class Special Issuance. At issue was diabetes (discovered during my medical exam) and sleep apnea (disclosed on the form before my exam). But I have questions about what I'm supposed to do next. The certificate has the restriction "Not valid for...

How to record cockpit audio (A20 + iPhone)

You can do the same with wireless earbuds. That's what I've done. Quality isn't perfect, but they're knockoff earbuds.

    masks and glasses

That's exactly my point. Yes, life comes with risks. But acting like people don't make decisions based on THEIR view of the risks is naïve. If someone feels wearing a mask helps mitigate a risk, *I* feel it's rude to make fun of them.

    masks and glasses

But we also take steps to mitigate the risks when desired. Would you wear a seatbelt if it wasn't required?

    Overcoming extreme nervous/irrational fears

My anxiety was tied (I think) to "don't screw this up, you don't want to damage the plane, you don't want to injure anyone". That being said, I'm now at over 30 hours and almost 70 landings (8 night). I can't say I'm 100% at ease, but I don't suffer the debilitating nerves like I used to. I'm...

Ask me your hardest checkride questions

AIM 2-3-5a3 The key being the first phrase... if you're not instructed by ATC to hold there, you don't need to stop. Now, IMO, it's better to ask for clearance you don't need than to neglect to ask for clearance you do, but I'd say "by the book", stopping would be "wrong".

Ask me your hardest checkride questions

Having a recommended runway didn't surprise me. Recommending the opposing traffic did. I'm guessing there's some obstacle on departure of 31.

Ask me your hardest checkride questions

I looked up the airport on SkyVector and found the following remark: WHEN ATCT CLSD - LAND RY 31 TAKEOFF RY 13. As a student pilot... umm... wow. Is that common?

Ask me your hardest checkride questions

Here's my thoughts (I did some research to confirm my thoughts)... 122.4 is a remote communications channel to Boise. I thought it would normally be seen on VORs, but not always I guess. (ah, looks like it goes through the Hailey VOR) C in the blue circle is the common frequency (when tower is...

Ask me your hardest checkride questions

That's the only instruction? I'm just a student, but if I was faced with this, stop short of the lines, contact ground with "Skyhawk 1234, holding short runway one five approach." Then wait for clearance to proceed. No different than crossing a runway. Yes? OK, based on a quick internet...

How to check status of denial appeal

I went to the AME, found out about the diabetes, then went to my doctor for treatment. The AME told me during the exam that I'd be getting a letter from the FAA with the denial and then follow what it says. Are you saying I should go back to the AME now? Sorry, I'm confused. Do I do a new...

How to check status of denial appeal

Back in July I went for my 3rd class exam. It was discovered I was diabetic. A couple of weeks later, I get the denial letter from the FAA and an address to appeal the denial. In between those dates, I had gone to the doctor, gotten on medication and started eating better. I got a form from...

    Overcoming extreme nervous/irrational fears

So an update... At the lesson with the "sub" CFI... we do a briefing, preflight, climb into the plane, start it up, and as it's time to taxi, my nerves kick in. He has me take off, and I realize it was WAY too smooth. "Did you help me?" Just a little he says. We do some slow flight, then...

    Overcoming extreme nervous/irrational fears

I figured that's a given. And I guess the question I would then ask, is "how do you KNOW"? Maybe I'm one of those it "isn't for". But I WANT this. I've wanted it for 30+ years now. Reading most of the posts in this thread has helped a lot. My flight with the other instructor got pushed...

    Overcoming extreme nervous/irrational fears

YES! You've summed up my thinking that I could not put into words. THANK YOU! ETA: Thank everyone else also. It's nice to hear from others that what I'm thinking, seeing, feeling is "normal". No, no one has flat out said "you should be further along", it's just an impression I get. My...
