    Who flies REAL VFR?

If I'm in the right seat and someone in a 172 VFR is on the VASI I'm like WTF? to myself.

    Who flies REAL VFR?

I would hope that's photoshopped but I have a sneaking suspicion that it's not.

    Who flies REAL VFR?

I took my American Yankee up a couple weeks ago to see if I could fly out a low cylinder. Turned out I had to pull a cylinder and have it repaired. Anyway, I headed west out of Lantana KLNA and got over the Everglades then figured well let me see if I can find some airports. All I had for...

    Desperately seeking DPE

Getting scheduled with a DPE for my instrument in South Florida last year was a nightmare. So yes other people do go through this.

Want To Buy INDEPENDENT CFII near Michiana w/in 40 miles of KMGC

I understand what you're saying. My neighbor makes the same point when I tell him I charge $60 per hour for my A&P work. But the point is that the going rate for a seasoned instructor is $40 to $60 per hour.

    "Beware" listings on Barnstormers

Oh that's interesting. I thought that since it was a free ad it was some consumer doing it.

Why? The high cost of flying..

Yes, absolutely. Plenty of active and engaged young people out there. That is my point. I have no data regarding percentages now and then and I doubt you do either. I don't know what that has to do with your original premise below that I disagreed with but okay. That and the connection somehow...

Why? The high cost of flying..

I don't know who you're basing these generalities on but I couldn't disagree more. Nor do I follow your logic in that more options equal less of anything. Young people are plenty active. When I was young, in the hippie days, I guess you could say the same thing about all the drugs we were...

Why? The high cost of flying..

LOL. My son is 20 and his girlfriend is 21. He has a driver's license I don't know if she even does but neither of them drive. It has nothing to do with them wanting to be part of a collective or somehow not being the person you were. They have a lot more options than we did when we were young...

Why? The high cost of flying..

Well then perhaps this post should be titled the high cost of new airplanes. Doesn't make his premise or this discussion any less valid.

    Air Wagner..... He’s baaaaackk.

I don't know who these guys are but I lasted about a minute. Dicking around with setting altimeter and a bunch of other button-pushing and they've already got a takeoff clearance. WTF?

    Buying a used aircraft

So rereading the OP, correct me if I'm wrong but I get this impression. Recently, it looks like the owner wanted to assess the condition of the engine for upcoming sale. So he had it borescoped and one cylinder pulled. I'm sure they checked the compression at that time too. It was probably fine...

    Buying a used aircraft

There are A&P's here with lots more experience than me but yeah. I R&R a cylinder on an O-320 early this year and we tried to get a look at the cam at the same time but it wasn't a great result. I just last week did one cylinder on the O-235 on my American Yankee to address a low cylinder but...

    Thinking about a rental property

My neighbors are big fans. They rent the house across from me for $2200 per month and the attached efficiency for another $850. However that house has been in their family a long time. House is worth about $350k so don't know how that would work out if you had to purchase.

    Buying a used aircraft

Compression check is a matter of minutes per cylinder. R&R cylinder a matter of a couple hours plus. I would certainly want to check compression before pulling cylinders. If compressions are low on all of them then pull them all. Or none.

What constitutes low/med/high time to you

I asked at a local banner tow company if they have a maximum age limit. Their answer was no, we have a minimum skill limit. I think you could substitute minimum hours for maximum age in that sentence.

    Prop stopping vertically

Turn it by hand and see where the impulse coupler snaps. That's a pretty good indication of TDC. I wouldn't judge anything by where it stops when you turn it off.

Guys, what 60s TV character most influenced you to pursue a STEM career?

Odd premise. My dad was a tool and die maker for Republic Aviation, Fairchild Hiller, etc. Man could do anything with his hands and passed some of that on to me from a young age. As a result, I always like doing things with my hands and my mind and I guess that means STEM to an extent? Ended up...
