    Home Flight Sim Recs

Well, here is where I'm at now. I upgraded my processor from an i3-7100 to an i7-7100. Went to 16 GB RAM, installed the 1TB cached SSD, and upgraded the video. The best I could do with my limited space was a Zotac nVidia GT-1030 with 2GB DDR5 VRAM. It runs X-Plane 11 very well (using the...

Pulled Over For DUI Going To Work

Or past? It doesn't sound like this was his first time to imbibe into the wee hours of the morning and then commute to his assignment. I was alluding to the possibility that this was maybe routine. Was he lucky that he had til 1300 or so to be "on the clock", this time?

Pulled Over For DUI Going To Work

Well, not this time. But it does make one wonder. anyway, the OP hasn't checked back in. He tossed in a grenade and is watching to see who jumped on it?

Pilot killed in Johnson County plane crash

Ooops sorry. I realized that I should have included the state in the title after it was too late - already posted.

Pilot killed in Johnson County plane crash

Pilot killed in Johnson County plane crash This one is pretty strange. The 41 year old (student pilot) crashed into his own yard, just a few miles from KCPT. He had been on a flight returning from "near Austin". The ADSB trace looks odd, just dropped nose-first into his yard. The name I found...

    Cessna 172 down, Broomfield colorado

"They is taking on a new use, however: as a pronoun of choice for someone who doesn’t identify as either male or female. " All these years, I thought the proper term was "it". That seemed far more polite than oddball.

For Sale SkyRadar-D Dual Band Receiver

The power cord appears to be a BNC Connector (or similar). I don't think that there is a step-up voltage device to go from the 5VDC USB port to the required 12 VDC the cigarette lighter would offer. The plane I fly most often does not have the cigarette lighter. I guess sometime between 1967...

For Sale SkyRadar-D Dual Band Receiver

Hmm, might be interested in that myself. Does it also require the cigarette light for power, or can I substitute a USB to whatever cord? One of the planes I train in has the 12 VDC lighter outlet, the other one doesn't. I use Avare, Android, on a Samsung Tablet. Definitely interested though!

    Flight Schools

Well, I am training in Central Texas. I have to carefully plan my training days due to windy conditions about half the year. And not just any winds, but gusty, cantankerous cross winds. The flight school I am at has weather bounds.

USE OF FAR/AIM ON CPL ORAL EXAM

Another way to look at it is that you're reducing the cost-per-hour for the DPE! Glass half-full kinda' thinking.

Da-40 crashes in Utah, 4 dead

I should have thought about that. I even have an E6B sitting above my computer monitor. I wonder what the altimeter setting was that day. Gotta start with the pressure altitude according to my directions. Would the [absolute] barometric pressure be the 24.46 in an above post? That would...

Da-40 crashes in Utah, 4 dead

That's an interesting question I hadn't thought about before. Wouldn't it still be 59F/15C?

Flying glider after medical denial for anxiety

Pipistrel Sinus Flex. Just around $165K. Has the 80 HP Rotax and can be had with all the bells and whistles as far as avionics goes.

Just for Laughs and Giggles - random aisle seat thoughts..

Textron recently "acquired" Pipestrel. Pipestrel makes the Alpha Trainer (among other models). So, there is a producer of two-place trainers out there. At a miserly 3 gallons an hour with the 80 HP Rotax, I could see that they are pretty well suited for a flight school. I think that you can...

    Taylorcraft down California

The saddest part of the whole affair is that he killed an airplane just for a publicity stunt. I have been surprised at the sudden rise in value of all aircraft over the last 18 to 24 months. It makes me think that I'll probably have to rent for quite some time after completion of my training...

    Simming

I would guess that probably 99.9% of members on this board feel the same way. What is annoying to me is when you try to find useful information for settings and the discussion is primarily driven by "gamers" who have no interest in, nor any concept of realism. The discussion is usually...

What’s a psychiatric condition to the FAA?

I agree, we tend to be a litigious society. I was just observing that the person was offering "free" advice, much along the lines as is offered by some of the excellent AMEs we have on this board. Didn't want him to feel as if he was unwelcome. Ultimately, it's up to the person being offered...
