    Aviation Pinup Girls

    From my unscientific research it looks like high wing planes win. Bi-planes make a good showing. Low wing almost unrepresented. High wing planes rule.

    Are Planes With Parachutes Really Safer?

    Not sure if it would work in Mooney or Bo, but installing a BRS in a C182P or Q increases the useful load. It gives a net increase of 160lbs MGTOW. After adjusted for the weight of the parachute the useful load reportedly increases by 65~75lbs.

    uAvionics Tail Beacon

    This is the email I received: As you are well aware, tailBeacon has been pending approval for longer than we (or you) would like at this point. While identical in most all respects to skyBeacon, tailBeacon requires an entirely new authorization from the FAA due to the fact that the GPS standard...

    Can I get help on how to fly a VOR radial or fly to a VOR using Aspen and GTN750

    The Aspen pilots guide is a very good resource. From the guide: NAV Mode Operation – VLOC Navigation 1. Using the CDI Source Select button, couple a tuned/valid VLOC radio to the PFD CDI and adjust the Course Pointer (CRS) to a value that will intercept the course. 2. Set the PFD Heading Bug...

    Avionics- What systems would YOU do?

    The G3X Touch has an internal WAAS GPS that can be used for VFR navigation if you lose the 650. It will also display the frequencies from the 650. Certainly not a necessity but it is a differentiator. But, it uses subscription(s) for databases and that is an ongoing cost if you intend to keep...

    Cessna 182 prop arm?

    The prop arm on my 182P is listed as -40.00 It has an AirPlains IO-520 so it may be slightly different, but it's probably pretty close. The cowling wasn't modified with the new engine, but I think the mounts were. I believe just heavier/stronger but the engine appears to be in the same position.

    Anyone switch foreflight <==> FlyQ?

    My opinion is that they are all so good that the one you know is better than the rest regardless of price. For some (me) the ability to choose what other equipment is compatible is very important. Interoperability is one of the features I value.

    Anyone switch foreflight <==> FlyQ?

    I have flown with Foreflight, WingX, Garmin and FlyQ. I'm not trying to dispute your opinion but am truly interested in what you found offensive?

    20 Years of Sitting: C-182

    Airplane ownership is a learning experience. Learn on the best maintained example you can find. If you can't afford that you will be shocked to find out what a cheap airplane costs.

    Phoenix Flight Instructor Recommendations (KDVT or KSDL)?

    A few years back I trained with Boris Vasilev at KDVT. Not sure if he's still there, but I can dig out his contact info if you're interested. He was attached to Wright Aviation at the time, but I think he does independent instruction too.

    Garmin Pilot adds Engine Monitoring

    I ran across this a while back. At the time they didn't have a twin engine solution. I no longer have a twin so that's no longer a barrier for me. Seems like a great product if it works as advertised. Engine, GPS and other data to an iPad MFD...

    *NA* Roadster recommendations

    I had a 1985 Vette. Very fast, flexible and twitchy. Traded it on a used 1984 928S. Maybe not as fast, but handled better, quiet comfortable and rigid. Vette was expensive to fix. 928 was EXPENSIVE to fix. I'd love to have a 928 GTS. Bought a XKR instead (too heavy to be considered a roadster...

    5 people in a 182, is it legal?

    I have a C182P. It has the optional 5th "child" seat that can be installed in the baggage compartment. Has 120lbs weight limit. You gain access via the baggage door. My 18yr old (at the time) daughter weighed 100lbs. She rode back there, but it was very cramped. Also it get's really hot with the...
