    PIREP requested: Ramona (RNM) CA

I've lived in Penasquitos and Poway (just to the east of PQ). I trained at KMYF (Montgomery) and after my private had a hangar at KRNM (Ramona). For me, RNM has a number of advantages over other SoCal options. It's usually the first VFR airport in the area when the marine layer moves out (and...

Money not being a deciding factor...210 vs Cherokee 6/toga

I hesitate to respond because it is outside the original question. If speed and spousal approval are paramount AND money isn't a factor.... SR22 Cirrus I had one. I didn't particularly like it (although it was very nice). My wife loved it. Wingspan makes for a tight fit in smaller hangars.

Flying airplane with missing cowl flap

Horsheim in AU makes an STC for a fixed cowl flap for the 182. It replaces the movable cowl flaps with a fixed version. The people that have them seem to like them. Lowers CHTs. I think it may affect TAS a bit. https://horshamaviation.com.au/stcs-horsham-aviation/

    P-51 Mustang

Six Shooter is Chuck Hall’s P51. He and his wife own and run Chuck Hall Aviation at KRNM (Ramona). It’s a two seat airplane but I don’t think they provide flights to the public.

Thinking about a dual sport/adventure Motorcycle

I hesitate to respond as it will likely not come across in the spirit I intend. I like following along with your adventures. I like all sorts of motorcycles. I raced a Monarch 125. You have a Moto Morini. Very few people can say that. Yours runs. Even fewer can say that. No disrespect intended...

For Sale SkyRadar-D Dual Band Receiver

I have one of these and although older it works very well. I also have various other ADS-B in receivers. Stratux Levil, etc. Some with AHRS. The Skyradar unit works better than most (if not all) of them. The downside (in some cases it's an advantage) is you need a 12VDC cigar plug in and the GPS...

    Anyone buying a Rivian?

Maybe an all electric ski boat will help out with charger economics. https://nautique.com/models/super-air-nautique-gs22e/overview

Mass Termination of DPEs - Portland, ME FSDO

I’d rather fail a task with a DPE on board than my family.

    Anyone buying a Rivian?

You may be correct. It’s been 15 years. It was a 2003 Quadrasteer. Full time AWD with four wheel steering pickup. Great truck. Horrible fuel mileage. I also drive pretty fast so others probably did better. But my point, poorly made I guess, is range suffers noticeably towing. Electric, gas or...

    Anyone buying a Rivian?

I think that towing range on pickup trucks (in broad general terms) is 40-50% of unloaded range. I think that works for most half ton pickups. Had a GMC with 6.0L gas. 13 mpg empty. 6-7 towing 3,000-4,000 lbs. have a RAM ecodiesel. 26 mpg empty 12 mpg towing. I read a test somewhere on the...

Thinking about a dual sport/adventure Motorcycle

Not quite cruiser style but an older monster 750 is a nice light bike with a low seat height. Not that you stipulated a low seat height but I equate that with a cruiser.

Is truck inventory going to get any better?

I have a half ton Ram diesel. Very nice truck, but I’d recommend reading up on the EcoDiesel main bearing failures before buying one. Note: I’m not saying don’t buy one. Just make sure you know what you’re signing up for. New diesels are nothing like the old diesels that earned the reputation...

    3 Blade upgrade 182?

I’ve had 2 182P, one with a PPonk one with an Airplains IO520. I’ve tried the hartzell scimitar 3 blade, the MT 3 blade and the MT 2 blade. my opinion generally runs counter to most I’ve read on forums, so discount accordingly. If I get another 182 I will find an excuse to put a 2 blade MT...

Thinking about a dual sport/adventure Motorcycle

Not cheap (if you can find one at all) but this checks the unique box: https://www.cycleworld.com/alta-motors-redshift-mx-electric-motocross-bike-full-test-review/ I've always wanted one of these: https://dirtbikemagazine.com/ktm-freeride-250r/

Thinking about a dual sport/adventure Motorcycle

Lot's of good advice here. I love the converted Harley dirt bike (post 26). I was always in awe of the Harley hill climb bikes. All of the choices suggested look like fun. If I was trying to make the choice I would figure out who you are most likely to ride with (I'm personally uncomfortable...

    Thinking About Kids Dirt Bikes

I taught my two daughters to ride. It's been said previously but I also think the most important criteria is to be able to touch the ground flat footed with both feet. This is followed closely by a light enough bike that they can pick it up by themselves including on a hill or incline. The...

    End of home cooked meals

Didn't cook much when the kids lived at home. Never was a "good" cook and my skills have faded with the passage of time. Cook at home pretty frequently now. Instapot with an air fryer lid. Crock pot. Sous Vide and a good vacuum sealer. With the internet, recipes are a search away. Simple, mostly...
