Is it normal for a student pilot to feel sad like this?

Flight training wasn't a particularly enjoyable exercise for me. In hindsight, as soon as I learned a maneuver well enough to demonstrate the ability to reliably perform above ACS test standards I moved on to something new, which for me took some time to master. In effect I never got to enjoy...

    Las Vegas recommendations

I got my tailwheel endorsement years ago renting their SuperDecathalon. It was great. I don't have any recent experience or heard any recent reviews. https://www.skycombatace.com/flight-training

    Shutting down

I've seen some checklists that recommend mags to off briefly then back to both prior to mixture ICO. This verifies P-Lead grounding and ignition switch functionality.

Talk Me Out of a Cirrus

I’ve flown lots of different aircraft. Lots of them flew differently. I enjoyed them all. Absolutely get out of an airplane you aren’t capable or comfortable flying.

Talk Me Out of a Cirrus

I learned in Cessnas. I like the "feel" of the Cessnas. Others say they are like an SUV. I guess I must like SUVs too. When I first started flying the Cirrus I didn't like the side stick. After flying a few hundred hours I appreciate it and prefer it to other planes I've flown (Stinson...

What causes engine roughness when you lean too much?

This is from memory from about 15 yrs ago. The carb'ed O470 reportedly doesn't distribute fuel/air evenly between the sides/banks of cylinders. They make a "crossover balance tube" in two different sizes. When I had my engine P.Ponked (now Northpoint Aviation) the balance wasn't very good and...

    Reduce your Skyhawk CHT!

I had one on a 182P with a PPonk. Never had a problem with CHTs and always closed cowl flaps fully after climb. Well worth the price in my opinion.

    Resorts near small airports?

This is a great thread. There are a lot more options than I imagined. It's nice when the City/State are included in the post to get some idea what part of the country (or Continent for Canada) the resort is located. There are a few listed that I might check in to. (figuratievely and literally)

Daughter wants a fun car, dad wants something more practical.

If you can find a Ford Focus SVT that hasn't been all modified into a street racer they are fun, practical and economical (relatively). AutoBlog Focus SVT

    Cessna 182P - Pponk my O-470 or IO550?

My original 182 had the Hartzell Scimitar prop when the engine was O/H'ed. I switched to the 2 blade MT. It was significantly lighter which helps the nose heavy 182. It was also a bit faster. Seemed to like to run 2450 RPM. My 182 with the IO520 came with an older 3 blade Hartzel. I changed...

    Cessna 182P - Pponk my O-470 or IO550?

I have owned a 1974 182P that I had overhauled to a P.Ponk. I've also owned a 1973 182P that the previous owner upgraded to an AirPlains IO-520. I've been reading airplane forums for decades. My opinion is generally not widely held from what I've read. For me, the ultimate plane is a 182P with...

    Velocity 6 place down

I missed it on the first post, but I'm not falling for it again...:) I'm a little slow sometimes.

    Velocity 6 place down

No. A V8 has 2x as many cylinders but likely not 2x the number of parts, so cylinders and any parts duplicated per cylinder will have the probability for twice the failures. Overall, V8 and 4 cylinders will have different failure probabilities because they are not the same engine. It is the...

Garmin GMA350 Wont connect to my Samsung S23.

I had trouble pairing a new device to the GMA350c. In my case a different iPhone was already paired and the new one wouldn't work until I unpaired the original. Subsequently I can pair either one and it works. Mine were both iPhones though so may not be the same issue you are having.

Odd request from ATC... "Remain clear of Miramar's Class Delta"

Could he have meant to say KMYF (Montgomery's Class Delta)? You were already cleared into Bravo. Depending on your choice of terrain avoidance and altitude maybe they were just making sure you didn't clip KMYF delta.

Aspen and EA100… The good, bad, and ugly?

I believe the Aspen works with the Avidyne DFC90 which I really like. Mine was connected to the Avidyne panel not the Aspen so I can't say first hand how that works, but the reviews I've read were universally positive. I did have one of the first Aspens installed connected to an STEC-50...
