PC 12 down in Nevada - 5 Fatalities

That is an area of personal minimums that does not get addressed well enough. I talk about this exact thing with my instrument students.

Another commercial x country question: night

As a CFI, I am not going to endorse you for a checkride unless your night XC contains a night takeoff and night landing with no daytime in between.

Another commercial x country question: night

In just about every case I know of, this requirement is done with a day XC, dinner, and then a night XC return to the origin.

Any tips for 300nm Cross Country for commercial?

Make a trip out of it. I did mine from Reno, NV to Ft. Worth, TX with two stops. Probably the most memorable solo flight I’ve done.

    ATC asks me for winds.

my JPI830 and 750 fill this page but will not display the wind in one of the four corners of the map page. I need the G5 temperature probe for that.

Does this flight count for the Comm 300/250NM long XC?

Yes, I would not sign the 8710 or make any logbook endorsements indicating he was prepared for the checkride.

Does this flight count for the Comm 300/250NM long XC?

Do a different flight and do it alone… nobody else in the plane. As a CFI, I would not sign off on that flight or a flight with any passengers as it does not meet the criteria in 61.129.

Adding existing hours to foreflight logbook ?

Just make one entry with the right numbers. It won’t sort out complex, tail wheel, etc. if you do it this way of course.

[World Tribune] Report: FAA quietly widened the EKG parameters for America’s pilots

I lived overseas for 12 years and the health care I received in the Czech Republic was as good as any I have received here in the US, and it cost a tiny fraction (about 4%) of the US price. My wife was in an ER in Yemen and received great treatment too. (6 hours in the ER of a modern hospital in...

    Ground instructor only

I had my Advanced and Instrument ground certificates before my CFI and CFII. If you use Shepard Air’s study program I would think you could pass your FOI, AGI and IGI in less than 10-15 days if you really dive in to it. As to IR, CPL and CFI in 270 days, that seems aggressive, but doable if the...

US Sectionals have lost foreign detail

Is still a big void on my ForeFlight. “Here Be Dragons”.

    Notams down?

Henceforth all NOTAMs will be broadcast in Morse Code on 121.55 as part of our modernization program.

    Notams down?

I feel safer now that I know about that tower light being out again, 8 miles form the airport at 15' AGL.

Any skiers/snowboarders here? WTH happened to lift prices?

Several years ago flying became cheaper than skiing.

US Sectionals have lost foreign detail

Obviously for transitions the FAA and NavCanada (and Mexico, etc) should be working together to have an area of overlap where they both benefit. Surely somewhere in the trillions wasted they can find two people to do this.

US Sectionals have lost foreign detail

I had an emergency landing in El Paso in 2018. It was very useful to have a bit of Mexico on my FAA chart to fully evaluate my options with a loss of engine power.

US Sectionals have lost foreign detail

As far as I know not all countries publish VFR Charts (Bahamas for example). The US provided nice VFR coverage of the Bahamas until a few days go. I would think it would be in the interest of both countries to have the FAA do this... even if Bahamas paid for it.

US Sectionals have lost foreign detail

I think the safety of flight is more that this was not announced and the US has provided this data for years if not decades. It will also encourage people to avoid Canada overflight and add to more traffic along the south side of the lakes.

US Sectionals have lost foreign detail

Sure, but why would the FAA want Americans to give money to Canada, Mexico or Cuba (for over flights)? Can you even buy VFR charts for Cuba with the embargo? Sporty's still lists the Caribbean VFR chart, but the FAA sectional for Detroit has removed all detail from Canada. ForeFlight says that...
