The best CFIs are the ones who can sit back, relaxed, while in a spin and calmly say to their student, "ok, what's your plan?". My CFI for PPL had near 20K hours and was as comfortable in the airplane as he was sitting at the kitchen table.
He should not be yelling at you unless there is a serious safety situation happening that requires immediate response.
You might try flying with another CFII once. I found getting my IR to be the most fun and teaching it is the most fun as an instructor too.
I have one really sharp student a...
I have never asked ATC for a block altitude and an area to work in to "just fly around" in the clouds (e.g. remain within 7 miles of a fix at 5K-7K, etc). Will they even give something like that to you? I am not sure that straight and level in IMC helps too much as I think there needs to be some...
Agree 100%. I had 1,000 hours and had flown my plane to 40 states and 4 foreign countries before earning my CFI. At 251 hours, the vast majority are not ready to be a CFI.
I make sure all my instrument students can load an airway to intercept when it means loading an entry point in the wrong direction so that you will have a solid line to intercept.
I’d have them available to the aircraft owner, school management, and maybe CFIs, but certainly not students. Of course they need to be available on demand.
270 hours to CFI at $170/hr for the plane is $45900 then 125 hours of an instructor at $60/hr is $7500, plus 4 checkrides, written tests and supplies is at least another $5k.
I think you are looking at $60k and 18 months minimum and that would be in a cheap part of the country. More realistic...
I have not run into a CFI like that fortunately. When doing turns around a point, I emphasize the ground path that we are trying to trace, and don't worry about where the wing is pointing...we will get to that when we get to 8s on Pylons during commercial training. The AFH will teach you where...
I grew up in Tahoe/Reno, so as a kid went to the races every year and never realized how unique they were until I was much older. It was just a normal September thing here. I think my first year was 1978 or so.
My ground instructor tests were processed by a friend at the local FSDO. You might try calling your FSDO to see if they can process them. A DPE is likely to charge you for the service.
I would contact other independent CFIs and just have everyone come there to do touch and gos. :D
I don't see how he can have any say what you do there. If it wasn't so far away, I'd bring my students there. Hahaha.
The initial reports are saying it broke up in flight. Not sure if that was the root cause yet.

I was at the departure airport (KRNO) earlier that day and the visibility was 1/4 mile at best. You could not see the tower from the west ramp. It was better in the evening, but not much. I can’t imagine what sort of ADM went on. The pilot is not supposed to know the condition of the patient.
