    Cylinder Deposits

Lead sounds like a reasonable explanation. I don’t know why that didn’t occur to me before, guess I’m just used to seeing it on the plugs and not the cylinder walls. As I mentioned before, oil consumption has been steadily dropping off with only 2 qts added in the last 25 hours and all...

Yeah, I guess that would be important information :) Lycoming O-360-A1F6D

    Cylinder Deposits

I took my first peak inside my cylinders today since the engine was installed and was a little surprised at what I saw. I was expecting to see shiny smooth cylinder walls with lots of crosshatch remaining but instead saw what appeared to be splotchy white deposits. The pictures aren’t great but...

    Battery Jump Packs

I recently bought a 1,000 peak amp Noco booster battery after watching several impressive demonstrations on YouTube. It easily started my Expedition with the 5.4L V8 with a dead battery. Next I disconnected the battery completely and was able to start it with only the booster. It didn’t turn...

Adjustment to solve Century II hunting in roll?

A little late to the conversation but I had an issue with a similar Century IIb autopilot resulting in intermittent trouble holding a heading in heading mode. I tried several times to adjust the pots using the procedure in the manual but it didn’t help. I’m fortunate to live in the Tulsa area...

    Eyes Out - Flyin Fun

its always a toss up for us between leaving RVS early or waiting a little later, advantages and disadvantages both ways. leaving later means getting to sleep in a little and less traffic converging in the pattern at PNC but usually puts us on the overflow ramp (or the grass) and a longer line...

Best Cruiser motorcycle on a budget?

I recently bought a Yamaha V-Star 1300 Tourer for $2,800 that seems to fit what you’re looking for. I see them for sale in the 3,000-$3,500 price range pretty regularly around here. It’s fuel injected and the tourer version comes from the factory with windshield, front floorboards, and leather...

    KHOT and Hot Springs

I haven’t spent much time in Hot Springs but just another hour north (123 nm) is Branson, MO. Lots of shows, activities, and shopping for kids and adults including Silver Dollar City. A lot of the theaters have switched over to their Christmas shows and there are several big drive through...

    TruTrak needs GPS?

Yes, TruTrak is a 2-axis AP. It connects to your pitot and static systems to provide altitude preselect, altitude hold, and vertical speed modes. If it’s connected to a WAAS GPS it will also follow the glideslope on a GPS approach. Airspeed input from the pitot system will prevent it from...

    TruTrak needs GPS?

The TruTrak needs a GPS source for track mode, GPS mode, and GPSS mode. Most panel mounted GPS navigators will work and quite a few portable GPS’s can provide the input.

    TruTrak install in C177B Cardinal

Mine responds great when following the GPS in GPSS mode and makes an immediate and crisp roll to new legs on a flight plan. However, in track mode, any turns less than about 90 degrees are sluggish. Turns in track mode greater than 90 degrees result in a nice 20 degree bank and roll out on the...

    TruTrak install in C177B Cardinal

I don't have the new software release for the TruTrak yet. I'm hoping to upgrade to either dual Garmin G5's or an Aspen E5 soon so I'll probably send the Vizion in for the software update at the same time. The TruTrak in my Cardinal has an issue with sluggish response in track mode that the...

    TruTrak install in C177B Cardinal

My TruTrak holds the altitude rock steady in smooth air and even in light turbulence. Even if an updraft causes a small altitude deviation the TruTrak correction is almost imperceptible. Have you double-checked your vertical setup configuration settings? The correct settings for your airplane...

    Flying to Branson

Branson is one of our favorite weekend getaways. We’ve been to all three Branson area airports multiple times and had good experiences at all of them. Branson Airport (KBBG) is a Class D airport during the day, nice facilities, Enterprise on site, reasonable tie-down fee ($10/night last time we...

Would this 1978 Cessna 152 be IFR legal?

A few years ago I traded my 172 with 1 non-waas GPS/COM, 1 NAV/COM/GS, & a DME for a 177 with only the original Cessna NAV/COM’s & ADF, and an in-op Narco DME. I found pretty quickly when planning long XC flights that it was much more difficult to find airports and alternates at my destination...

When did the 24 hour clock get the (&**$@@ colon?

I think it’s mainly so Excel (and other spreadsheet programs) can recognize the numbers as time instead of numbers in order to perform calculations correctly. (I.e. 1 in the time format equals 24 hours) Incidentally, you can force Excel to show the leading zero or leave out the colon by going to...

    Forced Landing - KPNC

I saw the airplane in the hanger in Cushing when I was out there working on mine. The Bendix dual magneto mount worked loose and the magneto fell out. If you own an airplane with the single drive Bendix dual mag (The engine model number usually ends with “D”) you want to be very familiar with...

    Forced Landing - KPNC

Sorry, wasn’t trying to be a jerk. Since the thread title said “Forced Landing - KPNC” and the news article title said “...Forced Landing In Field Near Cushing Airport” I thought it might create some confusion on where they were actually forced down at. Ever since my forced landing everyone...

    Forced Landing - KPNC

The airplane is registered to a pipeline patrol company in Ottawa, KS. Word around the airport is that he was doing a pipeline patrol at 500’ AGL and had a magneto failure. Oh, and he actually landed near Cushing Airport (KCUH), not Ponca City (KPNC).
