    Volunteer Private Pilot

Dont ask dont tell seriously... some people here need to get a life. The rule is to prevent PPL's from starting a 135 charter business flying their own or flying clubs airplanes. If your looking to build hours or do some cheap flying and a close friend or family member wants to pay for flight...

    Cessna 210?

I feel like the step down from a conquest would be any of the PA46 airframes, a Cessna 310, Piper Seneca or Baron. There are a lot of nice older examples of these for <350k. If the wife is used to pressurization now, then the Mailibu/Meridian may be the way to go.

    Don't do that.

The only time I carry full fuel is when I'm tankering cheap fuel or I need full fuel for a long cross country. I feel like carrying all that extra weight around is performence waste.

Sales tax on buying a plane?

Live in NJ and bought a plane in NY. No sales tax. NJ has a rule where if you buy a used plane from an individual it is not susceptible to sales tax. If I bought a plane from a dealer or a broker that ran the price of the aircraft through his or her books then you have to pay sales tax. If you...

Piper Arrow II vs Piper Arrow III

I dont believe the back seats fold down. Imho the Hershey bar wing handles like dog crap when slow compared to the semi taper wing. To me there is a significant difference in feel when at approach speed. It just feels sloppy. The semi taper wing cherokees are a bit faster also which is a plus...

Piper Arrow II vs Piper Arrow III

The wings are completely different. Arrow II has the Hershey bar wing and the Arrow III has thr semi taper wing which imho is vastly superior. Some of older Arrow II's have the elevator trim on the ceiling versus between the pilots seats. The Arrow III also has significantly more backseat...

    How do you judge VMC?

Is there a formula like this for figuring out what the tops are for say an overcast layer?? I usually check area forecasts for this but they cover such a large area... would be nice if TAFS would also say what the tops were.

    Downtown Dallas

Most people where I'm from in the Northeast see Texas as a conservative super state. People stealing headsets out of airplanes is discusting. Not alot of drifters in the northeast. Probably has to do with the weather being too cold in the winter lol.

    Downtown Dallas

Yeah what dont you guys like about Texas?? I always assumed the people that lived there were die hard about their state. I live in NJ and envy the much cheaper cost of living and the better weather. The northeast sucks.

    Thoughts on a Cherokee 140 as a learner & 1st plane

Ill throw my.02 cents in... I hate the Cherokee 140. Its cramped, extremely underpowered, has 0 back seat legroom, handles like crap when slow, and the trim on the ceiling is something I could never get used to. Also I dont think I've ever been in one that can break 100KTAS in cruise. I know...

    Owning

I financed 50% of the cost when I bought the bonanza. Yeah obviously it's better to buy the toys in cash but not everybody can and I'm not going to limit myself from experiencing GA because of some ultra rich guys conservative finance rule. I got a rate of 4.99% and with a rate that low, some...

    Does this plane exist?

Need a Navajo, Cessna 340, or any of the PA46 aircraft for this mission. They are the next step up from the Baron, Seneca and 310's. If this 900nm destination is a weekly trip a Turboprop or Jet would actually be preferable lol.

    Hypothetical Plane Purchase Scenario

650k salary, an almost 1mil house, a nice place in Naples and a family cabin...I really wish I could be in Bill's shoes and have such problems. I used to think I was doing pretty good with my low-low/medium six figure salary.

    Tie Down Fees

    LOL +1

    Tie Down Fees

South Jersey - tiedowns at 2 very nearby airports with instrument approaches $85-$100 a month and you have to bring and use your own tie downs ropes/straps. Community hangar is $325 and the smallest T-hangars without power are $475 Newer hangars with power are $550 and up. There is a waiting...

When I was at the airlines we never ever intentionally went over 250KIAS below 10k.
