    2022 flying plan dilemma

Since you are not anticipating a ton of longer flights, I would stick with a 172, or if you could swing it, a 182. If you figure the block-to-block time for 5 or 6 365 nm flights and compare a SR22 to a 172 using performance numbers from the POH, your overall time savings will likely not be...

    First Airplane Recommendations

You might want to consider a Maule. Good performer but not as popular as Cessna.

    Plane Prices

Sometimes (most of the time) when I see people trying to justify owning an airplane, waffling about buying, etc., it brings to mind how short life can be. A pilot may not be here to fly when they have saved enough money, they may no longer be able to get a medical or even BasicMed, etc., etc...

    Headset question. Lightspeed vs Bose

Even if my financial position allowed it, I would not want to buy two headsets at close to $1,000 each. A lot of pilots (me included) spend most of their flying time solo, so to have an expensive headset for passengers that are rarely sitting over there just doesn't make financial sense to me...

    <rant> Weather</rant> Update <rant Adulting /rant>

Our weather here in eastern Arkansas gets pretty cold, but normally the really cold days will be maybe a week, then we get something in the 50F range for a few days, then back cool. I try to fly on the warmer days. One good thing about winter is the visibility is usually superb. I normally...

    Plane Prices

If you look at the price of new radios, parts, etc. for certificated planes, it helps understand why prices are so high. Also, take a look at what a new pickup truck costs these days.

    Headset question. Lightspeed vs Bose

I have a David Clark that I have had for a while. I have heard folks say David Clark's customer service is great, but I have not had a return problem. Not sure, but I suspect David Clark company has been around longer than the other two, if that makes any difference. Based strictly on what I...

Lost Engine- when to pitch for Airspeed

Thankfully, I have never had to use it except for flight reviews. Better to take care of the airplane and it will take care of you! :)

Lost Engine- when to pitch for Airspeed

I use: Ask HIm For Power (airspeed, carb heat, ignition on both, primer in and locked’. I think pitching up for airspeed may mean the difference between getting over a fence or trees or not. Do that first.

School me on the Garmin GDL-39

My connection problems were running Garmin Pilot on an iPad Mini 4. I had to turn off the GDL39 and reboot it to reconnect. I discovered that with the GDL39 sitting on the glareshield on top of the battery, the GDL39 was overheating. The avionics shop should have known better, but maybe they...

School me on the Garmin GDL-39

We have had a GDL39 for 4 years now. My experience has been it has less bluetooth connection problems when running Foreflight than it does running Garmin Pilot (doesn't make sense, but that is what we have experienced). I switched back to Foreflight for that reason. It works great. The...

    Aerobatic aircraft options?

Thanks for posting the video and sequence, Ed, despite your being a little hesitant. Not that my opinion counts like Wifferdill's does, but I thought it looked pretty good. I was really surprised the first time (as a totally inexperienced pilot) I watched a practice session and could see...

NA. Supplemental beam to eliminate living room bouncy floor size?

After you described the "sistering" you did in the kitchen, I understand your approach. The 2X4 flat along the bottom probably would have helped a lot more. The additional support beam you want to use in the living room should work okay since it will cut the span in half and reduce the...

    Glass or steam?

I have been wondering over the past few days how quickly a pilot loses his ability to effectively scan and fly on backup analog instruments if he/she is exclusively flying something like dual G5's. Just throwing that out. As far as preference, I prefer analog since that is what is in our...
