Seller: Pre-Buy MUST be done at home base

My first step would be talking with the prebuy mechanic for the guy who backed out. He has already done a prebuy of that airplane. People seem to make this much more difficult than it needs to be! And no, I would not let someone fly my airplane somewhere for a prebuy.

Should I NOT buy a Cessna 162 Skycatcher?

If you are thinking you may only keep your new airplane for a few years, it might be wise to go for the RV 12. I personally think it would be much, much easier to resell.

Rough Cessna 172 vs. clean Piper Cherokee

Go for the Cherokee. The transition from a C-172 is a non-event. I personally like Cessna better mostly because of two doors and not having to climb up on the wing and over the seats. If you have a significant other, might want to get their opinion. The 172 is pretty ragged out.

    IFR 250nm XC (Minimum Leg?)

Yeah, let me just cheat a little. :). Who really cares except maybe my future passengers.

I think your original plan sounds pretty good.

Need a new DG. G5 vs G275 vs refurbished DG

I vote is to just get the DG fixed. Fly IFR with the system you are used to for a while. You can always change out to an electronic like the G5, etc. later. The cost to fix the DG most likely will not be prohibitive. Try these folks: https://rudyaircraftinstruments.com/

    Thanks for posting that, Jack.

Help a Newbie: Under Contract for C172F

The O-300 we had was fine. The only problem we had in three years of ownership was fouling of some of the bottom plugs when idling or taxiing. What I did, and continue to do with our current plane, is lean pretty aggresively for taxi. Buying is kind of a crap shoot. You might buy it and fly...

Help a Newbie: Under Contract for C172F

We used to have a 172G, and it was a great airplane. This one looks a little ragged, and the radios are old, but it is priced right also.

    Hypothetical Trainer: IFR Certified Tomahawk

I think it would make a great trainer. You may want to look at a combo Garmin transponder like the GTX345 to go with it. That would give you ADS-B In/Out and I think it would display on the G5 (check this though). The main drawback, as others have said, it the weight limitation with the...

    Rental Pilot vs. Ownership

I started flying when I was just a few years younger than you are. I was working full-time at-a very demanding job, but I somehow fit flying in. I have a supportive wife, which makes a huge difference. Looking back now, I am so glad I did it. It is expensive, but doesn’t have to be as...

    172 Approach Speed

I agree with Salty! I didn't know it was this hard to learn. :) When we had a C-172, it was an older model without the chart you attached I usually was at about 60 knots indicated over the threshold. Flying at 33 kts indicated times 1.3 as the chart says, or 33X1.3=43 kts indicated (give or...

    Garmin Pilot vs ForeFlight

I prefer ForeFlight weather products. FF is a little more expensive, but I plan to stay with it. I had issues with GP dropping the connection to my ADS-B In device even though it is a Garmin device.

Should you get a PPL license even if you are only expecting to fly LSA?

It is less expensive and less hassle to go the LSA route.

EV vs ICE the real cost to individuals. N/A

I just wonder what sitting on top of a huge battery for hours will do to your reproductive capability. :) Just kidding.

    Thoughts on current airplane market

I’m an older person but I would kind of hate to let our little airplane just sit and rot away. When we bought our first airplane, it was (for me) expensive. We kept it three or four years then sold it for what we paid. When we bought our second one in 2006 (which we still own), I used the...

Short in stature.. interested in PPL..

Hi Fireman Mike. I suspect you will have a lot less trouble than someone who is 6'5"! I know a few folks who are about your height and fly Cessna 150's without issues. If you find an airplane to learn in that has the "crank up" seats, that will probable work great. You probably will not like...
