    Avgas Prices

    I paid $7.20/gallon today.

    I’m calling the peak

The VREF article makes sense to me. Folks expecting used airplane prices to return to prices of three years ago will likely be disappointed.

Need advice -Wifes first time up

Some time sitting on the ground and explaining what you will be doing, how the controls will move, etc. might be helpful. Also when you take her up continue explaining what you are doing, such as I am going to turn left, so we will bank the airplane to the left a little. And, help me look for...

Las Vegas to Eastern Oregon in PA-38 Tomahawk

I tend to be cautious by nature. I would take the long way via California and enjoy the trip.

Which portable ADSB receiver(s) do you use?

    Garmin GDL39. Works great!

Inadvertently flew VFR into bad IMC today, never again

I just think available ADSB airborne weather data is WAY better than we used to have. Far be it from me to complain—I am thankful!

    Instrument Student in IMC

There used to be something called “mind your own business.” Willie Nelson even had a song about it.

Inadvertently flew VFR into bad IMC today, never again

Thanks for taking of your time to post a story of your experience, IFRTrainingNow. I can still remember when I realized you have to trust your life to some little dials and needles in front of you. A lesson I have never forgotten. I doubt you will forget now either! Ignore any negative...

    RV capabilities

I know RV’s have a fairly large and loyal fan base. This is the first time I have read informed and objective reviews. Thank you for that! I followed (via Pilot Workshops) Keith Smith from New Jersey to California and back flying his Lancair. Very impressive!

Airspeed reading zero, possible reasons/remedies besides clogged pitot

With it stuck with both instruments, I would think that would rule out the instrument. My guess is a loose tube (maybe vibrated off). I think there is a filter in the system also, but not sure.

Vis or RVR? What's legal in this case?

You could shoot the approach but may not be able to land. The vis is in flight vis. If the in flight vis is 1/2, you can land. That being said, in practice I would lean towards the most limiting number. Even though one is legal and the other not, they are both pretty close together.

The fear is driving me... Part 2

Thanks for the “Part 2” report, RogerThat. When I read your Part 1, I thought you might just have been trying to stir things up a little around here. :)

    My A/C is broke

Rednecks like me would probably take the cowling off and have a look see. If the fan is working and the compressor kicking in, it is very likely low on Freon. If it is indeed electrically driven, you would not have to have the meat chopper spinning. If the compressor is not kicking in, get...

    Headsets for Wife and Kids

I have always used passive headsets, so have no basis for comparison. I had a set of Telex which were okay, but the mic didn’t always trigger like it should. I have a David Clark now, and it has worked well for me for many years. And, I can still hear well for an old guy :). I completely...

    "Jay" King flies west

Thanks for the updates/corrections, guys. I had flown with Jay years ago, rented airplanes from him and hung out at the airport. Sad day for Downtown Aviation.
