At our home airport, the ASOS sometimes reports erroneous low vis or ceilings. I think most of the time it is due to spider webs over the sensor or other things like that. Maybe a call to unicom on the radio or phone would add credence to your decision to land or takeoff despite the ASOS.

I would recommend going back to your AME and fessing up. You will most likely be able to retain your Class III, but will have to jump through a bunch of FAA hoops.

I kind of hate to say this, but just maybe the FAA got it right when they said we shouldn’t fly when we are sick, tired, under unusual stress, etc. :) I am glad you had a good outcome, RETRACT1.

Qbynewbie (sp??) built a spreadsheet several years ago that may be very useful. I think I have a copy somewhere, but it would be best to get it directly from him if you can. Lots of data.
