    The FAA has been infected...

Yeah. There was a thread here somewhere about this when it was first announced. I don't recall it devolving quite as much as this one has, although I do recall some of females here said at the time the original definition didn't bother them.

    The FAA has been infected...

Interesting thread to say the least!

Would you purchase this plane for instrument training?

The truth is you would have trouble finding approaches you could fly with the listed equipment. I would pass on that one if I were you.

    Update about AggieMike88

A good friend used to say "Every tub has to sit on it's own bottom." You have to do what is good for you.

Endorsement to fly steam gauges (maybe?)

One of the things that has bothered me most about glass cockpits is that I don't understand how all the electrons work, let alone how to navigate all the menues, etc. With analog, part of the IR training was understanding how each instrument worked, what could go wrong, and how to recognize it...

Buy it. Buy it. Buy it. . .

My input is it depends a lot on your wife as well. If she is retired and enjoys flying and travelling, go fo it. We sold our airplane back in July after owning it for 16 years. We owned another airplane for 4 years before that. We could not afford either at the time, it did not make good...

    Instrument training questions

There is much more to the instrument rating than just learning to control the airplane by reference to the instruments, although that is definitely important. A lot of instrument flying is "head stuff." You need to dig into the books, especially about the regs and weather. I would not...

Thinking About Hanging Up My Spurs

We sold out airplane back in July. I am a few years older than you are, but neither age nor financial considerations (at least primarily) were the reasons. After much consideration, I decided it was just time. I still enjoy flying, but like you, not all the headaches and expense that go...

12 miles WNW of a controlled field, way off centerline, and told to make "straight-in approach"

I have had a similar instruction, only was told something like (it has been awhile) “make straight for the numbers, cleared to land runway 18.” I was something like 45 degrees off runway heading.

    Ipad mini for foreflight

I would recommend getting the 6, but I have a 4 that I have used with ForeFlight for 5 years and it has worked great.

What questions to ask when buying first plane/LSA?

The feeling has not gone away for me so far (27 years). :-)

Another wide vs close pattern question

I fly close patterns and if someone is flying wide, I just slow down to make room for them.

What questions to ask when buying first plane/LSA?

Good luck BakedPotato! My $0.02 worth is to first decide whether you prefer high or low wing. That will help set you search direction. Then, try to find the airplanes you are considering close to you so you can go take a look in person (with your wife, by the way!!). You may eliminate some...

Can I fit in a GLasair 111 RG

If most/all the Glasair’s have a similar cabin, maybe you could locate one close by with a willing owner and try it on for size. I know Glasair has a few different models but am not sure about cabin dimensions.

Question on Average Hours per Year

I agree. Frfly172 flies his 150 160 hours or more a year, but most owners don't have the free time to be able to do that. We just sold our airplane, and my goal was an hour a week. With family obligations, weather, illness, etc., I missed some weeks but maybe could make it up the next week...

    Stratus or Garmin GDL?

We had a GDL39 in our airplane we just sold. I tried Garmin Pilot, but the GDL39 actually worked better with FareFlight running on an iPad. We had the GDL39 hardwired into ship’s power.

    Rental car woes

When flying GA, I always reserved a car through the FBO. I figured they had more skin in the game. Back when I was doing a lot of commercial flying, I just went through the rental company, which was Budget. I was a member of their club, etc., and there were always plenty of cars at the big...

Garmin GNS 750 vs Avidyne IFD 540

Hi MIFlyer. Not personal experience, so consider that. I have a friend with a C-182 that has both radios. He says the IFD (to him) is more intuitive and easier to use. Garmin has a lot of followers, though. Good luck! Let us know what you decide to do.

    V-Tail gear-up at DVT

Thanks for owning up to doing this. I think the susceptibility to distractions varies with the individual Pilot, but given the right circumstances, any of us can forget something important.

Passed the IFR written test today!!!

Probably $50 of the fee was for the checkride and the remaining $750 of the was the fee for dealing with a government agency!
