    C182 TruTrak auto pilot

Andrew Barker from TruTrak said on the webinar they did with Bendix that they were pushing to have the TruTrak firmware ready to go by mid-May. We are almost at mid-May now, so who knows? And to give another point of information, My Aspen E5 had zero issues during the install. I am going to...

    What sucks about your airplane?

But that 320 lbs doesn't do any good for me and my mission profiles :-) . I have a 3 person family: Me, my wife and my daughter. My wife is tiny, 5 foot 120 lbs. My daughter is 3 years old. But lets say she turns out like my wife and is tiny when she gets older.... 120 lbs. I weigh 260...

    What sucks about your airplane?

Man, I gotta say....not much honestly. I have a 177 RG. It's quite possibly the best balance/bang-for-your buck airplane I have ever flown. Roomier than a 182, faster, and hauls 980-ish useful. If there was ANYTHING I hated about it...it would have to be that its a bit nose heavy with a...

    Aspen

Thanks flybuddy. Glad you got yours straightened out and are enjoying it. I owe ya a few adult beverages for being the sacrificial lamb on figuring out the cable weirdness. Hah.

    Aspen

My installer called me today. He had talked to Aspen (they called him to give him up update as they knew mine was going in) and got the same explanation. They found that the 30 foot (I think 30?) cable that is shipped for the RSM was having noise issues at about 25 feet in length. The RSM...

    C182 TruTrak auto pilot

Well to be fair, there's only been one reported failure here on POA. My unit seems to be fine, should be picking it up in a week or two. I've not seen any other reported failures on Beech talk or any of the other forums. I'd figure if there was a real issue with Aspen sending bad product...

    C182 TruTrak auto pilot

If this is the same display and it's having all these problems, logic seems to be that it's a bad display or wiring issue rather than a bad RSM.... Seeing as how you've swapped 4 rsms so far, and had the same symptoms. Has anyone offered to try swapping the actual display unit?

Flybuddy is this a loaner from Aspen? Or is this the original RSM and display that you purchased? I thought that the pitot static failure mode was fixed in the E5 to where it used the GPS ground speed if it lost pitot input. Was your GPS doing any thing weird at the time too?

    Trio vs TruTrak

A NAV source is different than a GPS source. You should be able to have the Aspen take inputs from one GPS and One NAV (nav radio).

I wonder if it wasn't just a bad display unit? That's an oddly repeatable failure mode. But yeah... Totally agree with you on their radio silence. They should at least call or email you to give an update.... Even if it's "nothing concrete yet, still working on it".

Thats a strong claim. My unit is about to be finished up, and it's testing OK. It was one that shipped out in the first batch. There's also several other installs out there flying with no issues.

    Trio vs TruTrak

I was kinda wondering about doing the same thing on my Aspen E5 / IFD540 / TruTrak combo. Would be nice to have some sort of switch I could flip to have the IFD540 connect directly to the Trutrak, bypassing the Aspen E5 in the event it goes belly up. I don't think it can be done though. If I...

    Favorite Oil Analysis?

I've been using Blackstone Labs for my diesel F-250 and my wifes BMW. The results are really useful to me, in fact they predicted I had a failing injector on my F-250 because they were seeing trends of increasing fuel in the oil. They also saw some coolant in the oil, which lead to a leaky EGR...

    Trio vs TruTrak

Its plumbed into both the pitot and static lines. It knows what airspeed you are going. The automatic envelope protection works great. If it's active it will nudge you back if you bank oner 45 degrees (maybe 40 don't remember exact) and it will nose up or down to prevent stall or overspeed.

    Trio vs TruTrak

I honestly never thought I would consider a long trip "fun", but I still get happy when I my TruTrak is flying the airplane likes its on rails. I also love how the IFD does the predictive turns, essentially "rounding the corners" and the TruTrak follows it like a seasoned pilot. I still sort of...

    Trio vs TruTrak

I wasn't meaning to compare the E5 to the G5... the E5 is miles better in readability. I was comparing the "added feature" of either the G5 / E5 compared to the normal steam gauges they replace. Sure it condenses all the information in a nice to read display, but really, they aren't delivering...

    Trio vs TruTrak

I'd do the TruTrak first. It will give you the most bang for your buck. Especially if you don't already have an autopilot The TruTrak paired with a good navigator makes for way much less pilot workload. All an E5 does is give you a pretty display. Heh. Same as the G5 or any other attitude...

    Trio vs TruTrak

Yeah after that webinar it made me even more sure that I want to steer very clear of Garmin because of their vendor lock-in market strategy. I mean if your ok with going all in on Garmin youll probably will be happy, but your stuck with them in your panel. I like having options.

    Trio vs TruTrak

They mentioned yaw dampeners a little, but did not mention them being added to the TruTrak Vizion or AeroCruze products. The CDI/DG on the E5 gives you all the same exact information as an HSI, just in a different format. Reading over the pilots guide, I think its actually a little easier to...
