    New features - Aspen E5

I installed an E5 in My Cardinal RG. We pulled the attitude and heading gyros and then pulled the entire vacuum system. I also have a Trutrak Vizion so I don’t need any ofher vacuum instruments to run it. I am very happy with my E5 especially with this latest free upgrade that gives me an HSI. I...

    New features - Aspen E5

He called me before Christmas, (the 23rd I believe) and said he saw the annoucement email and then logged in and found the firmware download. He had it ready to go on an SD card when I got to his shop on the 30th.

    New features - Aspen E5

The OAT probe is in all of the RSM's that ship with the Aspens. Even the "basic" non-gps RSM that comes with the E5.

New Aspen E5 - In-Flight Crash and Reset

I've had my E5 since January. I have had zero issues with it so far. It was one of the very first batches to get shipped out. I recently upgraded it to the new firmware (2.11) that unlocks the HSI, and I have the Air Data unlock card on its way. Just wanted to add a data point.

    New features - Aspen E5

I had my E5 upgraded to firmware 2.11 earlier this week. This is a free upgrade to get the HSI. The air data unlock is roughly $495 and requires no additional hardware or shop time. I have been incredibly happy with my Aspen. This new hardware and firmware does not have the same failure...

    Trio vs TruTrak

Well right now, my head unit for the TT has been removed from the plane a couple weeks back and sent back to mid-continent (who BK / TT has contracted with for the firmware upgrade) to get its firmware upgraded to enable the integration. I'm hoping to get it back after the holidays. BUT, the...

    Trio vs TruTrak

I would have loved to install an STEC3100 in my Cardinal RG, but at $15k (just for the hardware!) the only value prop it gave me over the trutrak was auto-trim and IAS climb. My Trutrak was 1/3 of that cost. I am totally happy with my TruTrak and Aspen E5 combo. Even though the integration...

    Trio vs TruTrak

a MAJOR drawback to using the GFC500 is that are incredibly limiting your future avionics purchases based around the dang autopilot. Once you go GFC500, you are stuck in the Garmin wall garden as it doesn;'t really work with anything else. That forces you down the route of Garmin navigators...

    Trio vs TruTrak

It's important to note that the TT will indeed fly a coupled approach, as far as you (as the PIC) are comfortable / legal to take it. It's placarded at at 700 foot limitation, but there is nothing in the software that de-couples or disengages the AP :-) I mean, I have a Trutrak, but I would...

    Trio vs TruTrak

THAT.... IS... AWESOME! I could not fully remember what the issue was with the flags, but I remembered it being *Something* with the ARINC429 flags. This makes sense. So this explains why we are going to get the vertical speed, and altimeter bugs being sent over to the TruTrak too, in...

    Trio vs TruTrak

Cap, Thats the same news I've been hearing as well. Did you happen to hear if they are going to correct the ARINC429 flags in the Aspen upgrade that enables vertical steering commands to pass through the Aspen to the Trutrak? When I talked with Andy, he heard that engineering was going to...

HSI coming to the Aspen E5 as well as wind data! Side-by-side with a Garmin G5

The E5 is the exact same hardware as the new Aspen ProMax units. The only difference is the software, and that the ProMax also ships with ACU2. Other than that, its the same exact hardware, so you get the super bright screen and processor improvements. You can "unlock" all the software...

HSI coming to the Aspen E5 as well as wind data! Side-by-side with a Garmin G5

My avionics shop just made this post: https://www.facebook.com/thomduncanavionics/photos/a.364625024312488/584513958990259/?type=3&permPage=1 Its the E5 on the left showing the new hotness....the free upgrade to unlock the HSI, as well as the $500 option to unlock the air data. Their photo...

    TruTrak firmware is ready!

I just dropped mine off last week for the upgrade. However I have an Aspen so I don’t think I get all those neat features. Just heading and baro sync. Did your guys put in an autopilot source switch to select between the G5 and your navigator?

NARCO 12D Display Failure- Replace it With What?

Hey folks. I think I have covered everyone that requested the instructions. These displays are pretty simple to replace, with some precautions. We saved two Narcos' in my old 172K with new displays. Hope this helps!

    North Georgia Avionics Recommendation?

Carlus' engine shop is top notch, and probably the best one this side of the Mississippi. Carlus doesn't do a lot of avionics work himself, but he does hand build certain customers engines himself. They are a work of art. He's a super nice guy as well.

    TruTrak, where are you?

Very nice! When you have your toggle switched to the Skyview as the source, will the skyview also pass through GPSS from the navigator? Meaning will it follow a flight plan from the skyview instead of juts the heading bug? Will it also pass through vertical navigation on a flight plan via the...

    TruTrak, where are you?

Thanks SteveP. All I ask is that you don't forget us original adopters of the vizion. We could have easily placed our orders with other companies but we chose TruTrak. I'd like to say the same for Bendix King
