    "New" Flight Sim

It looks like the largest leap forward I've ever seen in simming. The AI technology they are using to clean up ortho images and produce accurate buildings and trees directly on top of pictured structures is mind blowing. Plus the photogrammetry stuff in the larger cities that have been...

    Mooney or Cardinal?

Practically speaking, they feel about the same to me. I think the backseats in the 177 may have a little more legroom (but the 182 has gobs of it as well). The key thing for me is that in neither airplane do you come close to rubbing shoulders upfront or your head on the side from any curve in...

Piper Aztec vs. C210 vs. Cherokee 6 vs. Lance/Saratoga

True, but I'd rather spend $20k more getting the plane than having to pay for two engines and all that maintenance long term. The 210s command a premium as well, and I'd imagine a Saratoga is probably cheaper all around unless something big breaks, but who knows. Those are probably comparable...

Piper Aztec vs. C210 vs. Cherokee 6 vs. Lance/Saratoga

I think it's hard to beat a Saratoga/Lance given it's combination of decent speed, incredible amounts of room, and manageable costs.

    Cirrus killer?

130 knots at 11.5GPH isn't great, but it'll still get you places. That's what we get in ours running 2200-2300 RPM and leaned to best economy. And your passengers will thank you for the ease of entry and massive amount of interior space compared to most other 4 place singles (outside of the...

    Quit using the autopilot.

Probably some truth to it for foreign pilots jumping in the right seat with 400 hours. For our little planes, the A/P isn't landing it for us, so we get plenty of manual flying in every flight.

    Pondering a new Plane Purchase

If space is what you crave, get a 182 and never worry about it again. Mooney's and Bonanzas are both going to feel as cramped as your Grumman (assuming it's a Tiger). Or is this really more about speed?

    Cirrus TRAC

Yeah, that's why this trainer still has the FMC style avionics even though you'd figure it'd make more sense for it not to if it were just a trainer. They want to teach that stuff. Huge schools like that one out in Arizona for Luthansa will eat this up.

    Cirrus TRAC

Your mom and pop flight school isn’t buying this. The European airline pilot mills will.

    TruTrac Install In a C182

Club is talking about this. Anyone done it? Opinions? Costs? I know there’s a shop on here doing Cherokees for $7250 all in. Is the 182 a more difficult install? Thanks for any first hand info anyone has.

Buying my first plane, what should I consider

You live in Atlanta, where there's no doubt an abundance of flying club options. Go find a club to join.

Not a good day to fly.

No-one should be flying in that, high time or not.

    Upholstery—A&P necessary?

I mean, it's one of those things where what people do vs. what may be technically required are often different. When I was in a club with an old beater Cherokee, we got the seat re-cushioned and covered after it basically collapsed from wear. I wasn't in charge, but I know there was no W&B done...

General Aviation Safety: Trained With Paper Maps, Flying With Digital Maps

The idea that you need "training" to tie your own shoes is silly. It's an iPad, not the space shuttle.

    IFR Weekend Ground School

It's a written test. Just save yourself a lot of time and money, get Sheppard Air, and pass the stupid thing. Your CFII will teach you all you need to know past that.

PIC ..... any reviews (good or bad?)

Everyone I know says they are great. But they are also overpriced IMO. $120 an hour (about 2-3x a normal instruction rate) + you pay all their expenses. If you want to take an accelerated program, there are much cheaper options out there.

Should I take my knowledge test first before going to a flight school?

I did my IFR written and Commercial written before starting training for those certificates. Here's my opinion. Most of what's on the written tests is useless once you get in the airplane. You aren't going to learn to use a VOR in the plane or how to do Lazy 8s based on something on the...
