Took off on one mag accidentally - did I hurt my engine?

I took off on one mag years ago, maybe I was just testing it? No, but I climbed out fine.

I gotta think, that pilot will be more bummed with themselves than dealing with a checkride.

    LAHSO Why all the fuss?

Are we flying a C-172 or a 777? It’s like equipment to go hunting, rabbits or a grizzly hunt?? It all depends.

    IFR with summer thunderstorms question

I get a little tired of hearing the reminder that the radar ‘depiction’ is a bit old, no kidding. No one(shouldn’t be) expecting one to fly based on the pictures on the iPad(wherever). Say the picture is 15 minutes old, or even 30 minutes, still better than what you saw on the FBO computer 2...

    IFR with summer thunderstorms question

On top of all the above, any aviator worth his(her) salt has ads or XM weather. With that info you’ll know what to expect ahead. If it gets to dicey with hidden/embedded thunderstorms, avoid, divert, or land short.

    Spark plug lifespan

Well, spark plugs(massives) used to be relatively cheap, $25 or so. I think it’s more with the condition & care. I’d think massives could go 400 hours or so, on average. The normal procedure is to clean, inspect, re-gap, then fresh thread anti-seize. One could inspect, maybe test resistance...

    Trevor Jacob Crash and Burn

Kinda reminds me of that guy filming himself while pooping in that pristine lake in CO. Both are a way to bring trouble on oneself with very limited upside. Yeah, a few goofs will give them the high-five, but the negatives far outweigh that.

    Trevor Jacob Crash and Burn

That sure was some dumb azzery, even before knowing how it would turn out. What becomes of his airline applications? I guess he screwed that up too. He gets an ‘F’ in headwork.

    Employee assistance program referral

I know someone who WANTED to be diagnosed with PTSD, thinks it will help in her divorce. In her mind she has it, with the ‘help’ of her therapist. So far it hasn’t helped her, she has zero plans to fly an airplane.

Alaska : Where to fly (Summer 2023)

You must have the whole Summer off(retired) then an unlimited fuel budget? It sounds like a great adventure. I’d start with checking the rules for taking the dog across the border, likely just some Vet documentation.

Wind turbine farms with blinking lights

I know there are all kinds of flyers. I know I won’t be fly down amongst the windmills, with or without lights. I have a relative that bought a house near a commercial property years ago. She complains about everything to do with it. When I’m there, I notice a little light, hardly any noise...

Florida to DC; where to stop?

So much crummy weather right now, and recently. Low clouds, rain, drizzle, & high winds. Hopefully we’ll average it out as May gets underway.

Florida to DC; where to stop?

Just to get started, I often drop some criteria into the Air-Nav flight/fuel planner. Of course on the day(s) of, one has weather, Notams, airspace issues & the rest to mix in. http://www.airnav.com/plan/fuel/ It can be as individual as we, ‘just want to try this stop’.

Extended truck service plans, yea or nay

I’m a no on these, never a regret. Say you buy a new truck from a dealer, get a 5 year extended warranty, aren’t you really buying a 2 year extension? You already have the basic 3 year, why overlap it? By the time that 3 year expires, one should have a feel for the vehicle.

    airliner actual weight vs GTOW?

I once talked to a mechanic who said he could fly, ‘because he knew hydraulics’. He said you ‘pull back on the stick to go up’ (military). I didn’t ask him about coming back to land.

    Report, or let it go?

I did the Chicago lakefront the other day, meeting a friend in Lansing, IL. One the way back I was following a plane at less than a mile. I kept an eye on him, even as he went through an active ‘stadium TFR’, I went around. Anyway, crisis averted.

    airliner actual weight vs GTOW?

Often the load is limited before boarding & with cargo. The could be a handful of seats ‘blocked’ with more wanting to get on, or ‘standbys’. It comes down to takeoff data, which includes many details, enroute, and arrival fuel. I do Central America a fair amount, you may have one runway...
