    Possible Instructor Change

This is why I went with an accelerated program. 7-10 days with an instructor that is really good at helping you get the information you need and no time to forget what you learned in the last lesson. I know me and I’d have never gotten my IFR using a tradition course with two or three lessons...

Scottman: where are you located? It sounds like a great deal for any students that live near you. gary

    Accelerated Instrument Training

My experience with Gatts was fantastic but it was more than 5 years ago. Like Hang4, other than scheduling the training before I started, almost all of my interaction was with my instructor. He was great but I’d be shocked if he hadn’t moved on to the airlines since then. gary

    172 vs 177 vs 182

I started with a 172 and now own a 177RG. The Cardinal is much smoother in turbulence than our 172 was. I’d expect a 182 to handle bumps better than the 177 but it’s been a long time since I’ve flown in one. The 177 is much more of a finger-tip flyer than my 172 was, especially in the landing...

    177 vs 182 For cargo

Jack I’ll be happy to take you up in my 177RG and let you play with it. That said, if I were buying a plane to fly cargo I’d go with a 182 instead of a 177. As a photo-plane no strut would be handy but the 182 you were using as a photo-plane when we went up was out climbing me pretty...

    Finding a hangar

I’m in the process of moving. I’ve had my plane in a hangar since I got it in 2003 so I was anxious to find one in my new location. I visited the first airport on my list but ended up #8 on the list. I expect it to take several years at least to get to the top, so I also visited the two other...

    How long to get IFR?

I didn’t think I’d stick it out through a local FBO, and only flying a couple of times a week, so I used one week’s vacation from work and took the training from Gatts in Kansas. I trained in my plane, started one Monday, and took and passed the check ride the following Monday. It was one of...

Wow Jack Great shots as always but he seems to have missed the part of the brief that said to smile. My favorite shots are #3 and #6, the sunset shot. Just gorgeous. gary

    Foreflight Continuing Ed

I have a very slow internet connection but do the downloads overnight while I’m sleeping. I really don’t care how long it takes as l9mg as it’s done when I get up the next day. gary

    Buy to finish training

Kitch: I bought my first plane to get my PPL and think it paid off well for me. In addition to lower costs to operate, owning the plane allowed me to fly much more frequently. That said, I never had any significant maintenance issues while I owned the plane. A blown engine would likely have...

Grand Canyan-Moab best trip plan help

When we did the Arizona trip we went to Sedona then flew over meteor crater, through Monument Valley and spent the night in Page. We had to get back to Yuma the next day so we flew all the Canyon corridors then down the river to Laughlin / Bullhead City for lunch followed by flying the river...

Poll...Should Radios Be Required At Non-Towered Airports?

I fly out of a fairly busy non-towered field south of Houston (KLBX). Nordo traffic fits the mix of everything from jets practicing approaches to student pilots running patterns. Things work well if people look outside the cockpit at least once in a while.
