Afraid to maintain an old plane

I fly a 1974 Cardinal RG that I’ve owned since 2013. I work with a skilled IA/A&P and do owner assisted maintenance and annuals. That is I do as much of the work as my IA will approve under his supervision and oversight. I enjoy doing the work and he ensures that I do it right and that I...

    Which iPad do you use?

I use an iPad Pro 9.7 with cellular and with GB memory. I use it with a Ramsey yoke mount and can see all the gauges over the IPad. I run Foreflight with all the US IFR and VFR data as well as all the high def 8mage files available. I’ve never had a problem. Gary

    Air-to-Air PA-12

Way to go Jack. I’m officially in AZ now, Bullhead City. I will look forward to your next trip out west so I can get some shots of my 177RG in the desert. Gary

    Stabilator vs. Elevator

I switched from a 56 172 to a 74 Cardinal RG. In my case the stabilator is way more effective than the elevator on my 172 was, especially at slow speeds. I used to have to pull pretty hard on the 172 for the flare. Pull that hard on the RG and it will stand on its tail. My transition...

Describe Your Plane in One Word

Freedom. My 177RG lets me go where I want in a reasonable time with low stress and great comfort. This was really made apparent when I had to drive my truck to Arizona shortly after having flow my plane there during our move to Bullhead City. Eight hours flight time seemed pretty long...

    Presidential TFR

I got to watch the intercept live from the ground. Pretty cool from that perspective but I’m glad I wasn’t the pilot that was intercepted. Gary

    Daily Pic

I know it’s not a great photo but it was my first time over 200 mph in level flight. I caught a great tail-wind on the way back from picking up my Cardinal RG after getting the failed alternator replaced in Booneville, AR. Gary

When to refuse to do an annual.

Tom Back to your original question. As an aircraft owner I’d appreciate you telling me what you think and why. This one seems obvious but I always go into my annuals with the knowledge that I don’t know what I don’t know and one of the things I value most about my IA’s is their saving me from...

What is easiest way to scan logbooks?

RTK11. Will scannerpro combine the pages into one PDF or do you just end up with a bunch of separate images? I need to scan in my logbooks and my current app keeps them all separate. Gary

    A tough decision

Sorry to hear that Ryan. I know how much it hurts but the time comes when it’s best for your loved on to let the suffering end. I hope you will be able to remember and enjoy the good times with him soon. gary

For Sale Free to a good home

I’m getting ready to move and found my King DVD’s from when I got my PPL and my Sportys course from when I took my IFR written. Both are out of date but if anyone wants them they can have them. The King course is dated 2002. I think Sporty’s was from around 2013-20145, somewhere in there. Gary
