    Insurance Insanity (Non-Aviation)

Our system is a wasteful mess for sure. More like pre-paid medical coverage than insurance. But having lived a significant portion of my life overseas in countries "with great government insurance", nope, ours is the best by a long shot.

    HIMS Backlog

A congressional will not get a decision changed, they'll defer to the Agency. However, what it will do is get it looked at by adults. Sometimes things like this get "mis-placed". For example, in a different agency, I've seen things in queue for an analyst that went out on long-term leave or...

Multi Training - Instrument Approach OEI Training

Agreed. I only found it hard when he pulled it before I had the approach briefed and set up. It gets busy.

Multi Training - Instrument Approach OEI Training

All of the above. We did a lot of OEI approaches. On my check ride the DPE did it after the IAP and before established.

    Practicing stopped prop

I did it Tuesday. It was in a twin, but it does give you a great appreciation of how much drag a stopped prop causes, instant brick-mode. Wouldn't generally consider it in a single.

    Mental Health advice

There's an interesting perspective in the book: "The ADHD Advantage: What You Thought Was a Diagnosis May Be Your Greatest Strength" by Dale Archer MD If you don't want to read the whole book, at least read the Foreword by Dr. Allen Frances, Chair of the DSM-IV Task Force. The FAA disagrees...

    Recent Piper AD

Got it, thanks. I was looking at a summary of the SB, not the actual SB, rookie mistake.

    Recent Piper AD

Here is the SB referenced in the AD. https://www.regulations.gov/document/FAA-2024-1302-0002 If I'm reading it correctly, the AD applies to my Seneca III, but the SB doesn't. I'm not sure why they were in such a rush to get this out.

It's AD 2024-10-4. I got it from AdLog. It looks pretty unnecessary, waiting for an assessment from my IA.

This thread confirms that the answer to all questions in aviation is: "It depends"

Pre Buy Inspection - Who generally pays for moving the plane?

It's negotiable. Generally, but not always, the buyer travels. Distance matters. What kind of plane is it? If it's a common type, you can find an A&P local to the plane and that should work. If it's a less common plane, more tricky. Type clubs often have a recommendation and can be a real help.

What if You’re Philosophically Opposed to AA?

Post #26 says take a bus, so there's that. There are other programs people have used if you have the time and money. If you push hard enough, you can get through it with an AMOC. Sucks, but the taxpayers allow the bureaucracy sees things that way, they very much believe in one size fits all...

    Resorts near small airports?

Another vote for Nemacolin (PA88). The runway is currently closed, but is scheduled to open this month.

    ...

Every plane I've owned has been a project, and it's been great. The key me thinks is to start out with a straight airframe without significant corrosion, those make it to hard to rehabilitate. As to the semantics, I think restoration is not really the idea here, I think that's reserved for...

Etiquette for using a friends plane

It's a win-win. But to be a good partner, keep it very clean, appropriately full of gas, and help with the scheduled maintenance. And from time-to-time, offer to chip in for an upgrade or something. Of course, take him flying sometimes in his plane till he gets his certificate.
