    Practical penalties for violations?

https://disciplesofflight.com/flying-without-a-license-pilot-conmen/ Had a Fed ask for my license after the Jimmie Lane incident and he said that they now have to physically see it for rides. One other note on this subject....If a Fed says to let him have your license for a ramp check, check...

    Expired CFII-MEI

Again your lack of reading comprehension is astounding. Broad assumptions again. How do you know what I studied? How do you know what I flew when not flying professionally? Why wouldn’t the experience that I used as a CFII MEI not be useable or are you saying that all that knowledge just...

    Expired CFII-MEI

Sarangan Thank you for your insight. I would agree with the every two year refresher keeping one up to speed but that would assume that one lived in a vacuum and didn’t keep up to speed on everyday aviation and that one had a computer when none existed. As one who has spent the last forty...

    KGGG: Stebbins or KRS Jet

Both are good. I usually go to Stebbin’s but only because trying to explain how to find KRS to my family wasn’t worth it. ForeFlight says Stebbins has no fuel but that is wrong. There is no self service at Stebbins.

    Expired CFII-MEI

Never said I was. Read the messages before posting childish retorts. Multiple ways? Name them please...remember we are not talking about in the day of online FIRC's.

    Expired CFII-MEI

Yep, it’s been that way forever and Doc Holiday, thanks for the childish retort. I let mine expire due to the lack of time and funds (no online back then) with a very ill child. I went into commuter and airline flying a little later and just never did it. Met with the head of the local FSDO...

    Expired CFII-MEI

Amen farmrjohn They cry they want us old guys to pass along knowledge but they won’t recognize that experience. Frustrating. Talked to one “by the book” DPE would said he looked forward to grilling me....uh nope.

    Expired CFII-MEI

I am in the process of reinstating my CFII-MEI and something struck me today as odd. No certificate that a pilot has expires except the CFI. As long as one does a Flight Review or an IPC, a check ride is never required for as long as the pilot flys. If CFI John Doe quits teaching but...

    "change to ground point x"

Go fly in Europe if you want to hear the full frequency. Descend to Flight Level 7 contact Frankfurt 127.925. Anything above the transition altitude, which changes every day or multiple times a day due to the pressure, is given as a Flight Level ...10000 feet is FL 100 Combine all of this...

Can I really afford a Bonanza / Debonair??

I was in your boots a couple of years ago. Afford a Bonanza? Absolutely not. My budget was about yours. I was in the process of retirement and looked at many many planes. My wife and I did not want a partnership under any circumstance. A good friend has a large shop and he told me that I...

    Oshkosh or bust...trip planning

Weather permitting, we try to arrive on Friday afternoon before the Monday opening. Saturday at the latest but two years ago with the weather we had to arrive on Sunday and follow in the mass arrivals that were a day late due to weather...what a goat rope. Half of the worlds airplanes (and...

    IPad Cooling

Thanks all. In my airline flying we used the Pivot and when the sun shined directly on it, we would occasionally “lose” one. In my personal airplane, air conditioned but sitting on my leg I am afraid it is getting a bit warm. I tend to keep it on constantly despite the 530 and an Aera 796...

    IPad Cooling

Does anyone use one of the XNaut IPad cases with the built in fans? Curious as to how you like it etc. I use a leg strap to hold my IPad Mini on my leg and also have the Apple cover but I have noticed that it is dimming and gets fairly hot. I have my overheard AC vent blowing near it but not...

    Engine compression?

Fantastic! You are ahead of most by a long shot. It’s becomes a subjective subject but when you understand that compression check’s are just a part of the decision to buy or perform more maintenance, then YOU can and will make the right decision. Question the old wife’s tales and the airport...

    Engine compression?

I attended the Continental Engine Maintenance class earlier this year and this was discussed a lot. Unofficially they wish that the FAA would allow them to do away with it. Borescope tells so much more. The air pressure is helpful for listening for air escaping past valves, induction leaks...

    Flying across the continent

Your routing looks fine. As you go through the NM region and heading out into the Plains especially at night, you will find the controllers to be more of cleared direct and more relaxed as long as the weather is good. Absolutely do flight following and when the frequency is clear talk to the...

School me on flights that crosses the pond

And everyone thinks that the "world" changes at the International Date Line....Wrong! It is at 30 West. If you flown internationally then everything changes there. Slightly TIC. I have a picture I took as I crossed the Equator and the International Date Line exactly and there is a story...

    Looking at a 210b now

As with aircraft purchase, a comprehensive pre-buy by a mechanic that KNOWS the type is beyond essential. I wanted a 210 bad. Couldn’t afford the year models that I wanted and found a mid 60’s with a beautiful paint, interior and panel. Lots of work making it look good. Had the owner bring...
