Buying a vehicle that has a lien

I need advice on buying a private sale vehicle that has a lien. I've bought and sold dozens over the years but always had a clear title. Looking at a newer travel trailer. Owners financed the trailer and still have a balance. I don't know exactly who hold the lien but I don't think they are...

    O-200 Sudden Roughness in Flight

Yep, plane is back with a reman cylinder. Exhaust valve broke at the stem and the piston pounded the valve around in the top of the cylinder before spitting it out into the muffler. Rings were intact, all valve pieces were accounted for, and the sump and oil filter were clean.

    O-200 Sudden Roughness in Flight

I talked to the mechanic again tonight and also consulted independently with my regular mechanic. As they explained it to me, the damage/failure was at the top of the piston in the combustion chamber and neither thought there was a risk of metal in the sump. I will confirm my understanding when...

    O-200 Sudden Roughness in Flight

It does have a filter. The mechanic didn't mention anything about a tear down. He only said that the filter "did its job." I will be sure to inquire further. I have't used this shop before but the mechanic seems to be well regarded and was recommended to me by several people when I first...

    O-200 Sudden Roughness in Flight

That's a good question. I haven't seen the extent of the damage. Do you have advice in this regard? I have not been down this path before. Jim

    O-200 Sudden Roughness in Flight

The verdict is in on my engine. My #4 cylinder was "toast." Mechanic thinks I lost a ring which led to the failure. He is going to see if my cylinder is a candidate for OH.

    new classifieds

I think that this is a great idea. There are a lot of things that may not be directly aviation related but which I suspect would find an audience of buyers on here. As an example, I am currently selling a motorhome. We've taken it to Oshkosh the past several years and I think that it's a...

    O-200 Sudden Roughness in Flight

Went back to the airport this afternoon and pulled the prop through several rotations. I could definitely feel a difference between the cylinders. The first two cylinders definitely gave me quite a bit of resistance; the third cylinder practically no resistance; and the fourth gave resistance...

    O-200 Sudden Roughness in Flight

Ha. Wife is actually awesome and totally supports my flying addiction. We have company this weekend and I was supposed to be running errands instead of flying last night. I got busted.

    O-200 Sudden Roughness in Flight

It's going to be a long couple of days waiting for the mechanic to take a look and provide a diagnosis. Is there anything that I could make worse at this point by running the engine on the ground? I'd like to return to the airport tomorrow to ground run the engine to check the mags and see if...

    O-200 Sudden Roughness in Flight

Interesting that you suggested that, as someone else also mentioned it to me tonight as a possible cause. I have had carb ice on numerous occasions in my C150/O-200, but all of those were dramatic but smooth reductions in power that was immediately corrected by applying carb heat. My symptoms...

    O-200 Sudden Roughness in Flight

No I didn't. I was right over an airport and had it on the ground in about 2 minutes. Not knowing what was wrong a fearing that i could potentially do more damage by running it, I just shut it down. Are you thinking that I could have eaten a mag? And does the inability to pull the throttle...

    O-200 Sudden Roughness in Flight

So I made my first precautionary landing tonight. Was cruising along at 2500' and out of nowhere got a really violent engine shake. I happened to be overflying an airport so I dove for the numbers and got it on the ground. Continued to shake on the ground (the plane and me) and I noticed that...

My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

I updated to the latest release last night. Haven't flown yet but all indications are that it was a good install. I see the 1090 toggle feature in this new version. Do I simply need to get another USB receiver and turn the toggle on to get 1090 traffic? Jim

My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

My Stratux/Foreflight combo had been working great since I put it together about two weeks ago. On my most recent flight, however, it started picking up my plane as a traffic target (freaked me out until I realized it was me) and also showing all other traffic targets at same altitude...

My Attempt at a $115 ADS-B Receiver Build for Foreflight

I made this and flew with it for the first time tonight. Works great! At one point I had seven towers locked. For $105.93 in supplies and literally 20 minutes of my time, I now have in flight weather radar, current weather reports, METARS, live TFR updates, and some traffic. I am very...

    Narco Mark 12D Issues

Hey guys - My Narco Mark 12D is starting to act up. It will work perfectly when I first turn it on but the audio quickly becomes distant and tinny. I can still barely make out calls from other planes but things are definitely garbled and not clear. Today it faded from clear to garbled while...

Fuel leaking ALOT out of overflow

I did the McFarlane vent tube mod to my C150 last year. It definitely helped but I still do get a decent drip if I top to the collar. My mechanic also discovered a broken tank strap during the install which added to the costs. It definitely made things better so I have no regrets. I now top...
