For Sale Wings of Hope Announces Fall Aircraft Raffle

Sorry, by quietly I meant as compared to all of the previous WOH airplane raffles that were 4000 tickets. This airplane raffle is 5000 tickets. Didn’t mean to imply that they changed the rules after the start of the raffle.

For Sale Wings of Hope Announces Fall Aircraft Raffle

I got one, but I think they quietly added 1000 more tickets to this airplane’s raffle.

    IFR Weekend Ground School

If you sign up for Aviation Seminars, consider having a plan B. I did the King course to learn the material and then planned to attend an AS course for test prep. They cancelled on me just a few days prior due to low enrollment. I wound up using Sheppard for the test prep. No regrets, scored a...

Stratux AHRS - Issues with update?

Thanks, that would probably explain it. I just used the Download button, which I assumed was the latest stable release. I still don't see the release notes. Do you know where 1.4 lives on the main site? The download button delivers 1.5 and I only found 1.4 through a google search. Jim

Stratux AHRS - Issues with update?

Anybody aware of known issues with AHRS and the latest Stratux release? Couldn't find anything specific on Reddit. I'm running my Statux with WingX. AHRS in WingX had been working fine. Decided to proactively update to v1.5b2 and create a backup card. Running the updated Stratux software...

Carb Temp using E.I. FP-5L Fuel Flow Computer?

Thanks, NordicDave. Exactly the feedback that I was looking for! I'd love to do the CGR-30 but I'm already broke from the OH. :) -Jim

Carb Temp using E.I. FP-5L Fuel Flow Computer?

Have any of you guys used the Carb Temp functionality of the E.I. FP-5L fuel flow computer? If so, can you tell me how it compares to a stand-alone carb temp/ice warning instrument? Currently overhauling the O-200 in my C150 and plan to add the FP-5L fuel flow gauge during reinstallation. My...

cheap scanner or radio for CTAF

I’m glad you posted this. I too have the Sporty’s scanner and it’s awful. It never worked well at home but I figured I was just too far away. I took it to Oshkosh and couldn’t pick up any transmissions on the field. Junk. Unfortunately returning is not an option. Yaesu handheld works perfectly...

    Fatal crash near Philly

Yeah, I was referring to Willow Grove. Pilot was local and I’m sure was familiar. That would have been the most obvious emergency landing spot if he had engine issues and the time and wherewithal. Part of the runway at Johnsville (Warminster) remains, but they put a tall retirement community...

    Fatal crash near Philly

I live nearby and was driving to work within about 1 1/2 miles at the time of the crash. Weather was poor... very low ceilings and mist. I’m an instrument student and the wx caught my attention, even before I heard the news. I’m making a conscious effort to refrain from speculation, but will...

    Oshkosh - 2019

Seriously, Kent, i wish we could. Security was so bogged down with other crap that they didn’t seem to care. I’m still a bit shocked by the audacity of his actions, and the f-u manner in which he defended them. He literally moved my stuff - scooters, chairs, etc and ignored the rope that...

    Oshkosh - 2019

Scholler has devolved to a state of anarchy. My 15 year old called me freaking out this morning because some jag off moved our stuff out of our site and set up his camp while we were away. Our neighbors called security. Sure enough, I show up to see what’s going on and the guy told me with a...

    Weather OSH last night?

I just came past the main Scholler entrance about 5 minutes ago. Doesn’t look like anything is moving. Pop up is still popped up in front of registration buiding.

    Weather OSH last night?

For those trying to get into Camp Scholler today, grass seems like it’s drying out a bit but access roads are still torn up and largely impassable. They have traffic redirected on Poberezny Road, folks camping in the right lane as far as I can see.

    This was Scholler yesterday afternoon.

    Weather OSH last night?

Here’s what Scholler looks like this morning. Roads are still soft with standing water. People were camping in the check in lanes last night. Someone had a pop up set up right in front of the registration building.

    Weather OSH last night?

Scholler is a mess. There’s a huge lake in the middle of the field over near the ultralight emergency runway. They’ve stopped letting campers in.

    Weather OSH last night?

We’re in Camp Scholler, haven’t made it to the flight line yet this morning. Storms came through a little after 10p last evening. Gust front was intense. I checked the ASOS a few minutes in and was reporting G39. No hail. A few tents around us collapsed but no obvious damage to anything that I...

At a crossroads in the hobby

Doylestown has an assorted C152/C172/PA28-161/PA28-181 rental line. VanSant has a Cub for rent. Also, Philadelphia Glider Council in Hilltown is a really nice glider club, might be a fun and new way to get your flying fix. All are probably < 45 min from where you’re moving. Jim

Plane down off of Cape May, NJ

There’s a webcam pointed directly at the crash area. Wonder if there’s recorded footage.
