    Boosting Wi-Fi in Hangar

Thanks guys. I may ultimately go the cellular route like Kevin mentioned, but I'm time building and in a crappy unimproved hangar so the preheater control is really the only thing I need the wifi for. The wifi is great just outside the hangar, strong enough to update ForeFlight and surf the web...

    Boosting Wi-Fi in Hangar

Hey gang - I'm trying to setup a wi-fi outlet in my hangar to remotely control my Reiff preheater. I have a solid two bars of connection with the airport wi-fi when I stand in front of my hangar, but as soon as I step inside and close the door the signal drops almost completely and the switch...

    Re-registering expired N number?

OP here. Mixed bag of news from OKC. The good news is that since the deregistration was due to the owner's non-renewal and not an event (like destroyed in an accident), the tail # is in limbo and not in the reassignment pool. I can apply for a new registration and request it back. The bad news...

    Re-registering expired N number?

Good to know, thanks. Calling OKC today.

    Re-registering expired N number?

Have any of you been through the process of re-registering an airplane that was de-registered due to failure to renew? Plane in question was due in October 2020 but the owner let it lapse. Regs say "If the N-number is canceled without being reserved, it will not be available for re-assignment or...

    How to remove wing mold

Thanks guys, these responses are all very helpful. General intent was to see if there was a well regarded "go-to" solution to clean this off - sounds like it's not quite that simple. Right now the mold/algae removal is buried beneath a list of other more pressing concerns. I'll give it a good...

    How to remove wing mold

Plan is still TBD. Step one is to try to determine if sitting has done any damage to the engine or airframe. If not and we get it airworthy, I may consider buying it. I can try to post some pictures. I think that the paint is shot - the mold/algae areas feel pretty rough to the touch. Interior...

    How to remove wing mold

You might be right with the algae - it looks black but when I try to scrub it off it turns greenish. It's definitely stubborn and takes A LOT of elbow grease to get through it. Paint underneath has not fared well in the elements and the mold/algae is pretty well embedded. I may try the power...

    How to remove wing mold

I'm helping a friend get a Cherokee that's been sitting back in the air. It's been out on a tiedown and the top of the wings are covered in black mold. Any tips or tricks to appropriately remove and kill the mold so it doesn't return without hurting the aluminum? Thanks. -Jim

    Keeping a Red Dragon Lit

Excellent advice... certainly don't want to blow myself or anything else up. Just wondering aloud how this setup would be different than my gas grill, which has no thermocouple. For discussion, this Red Dragon doesn't have a pilot. Its just a piezo igniter that lights it when the primer is...

    Keeping a Red Dragon Lit

Thanks guys, I'll try to do some more sleuthing, both with the multi-meter and also to see i I can visually determine where the thermocouple is placed. It's a very simple setup with what I think is an off-the-shelf thermocouple. Heater works fine otherwise, just frustrating and impractical to...

    Keeping a Red Dragon Lit

Not an expert here either, but I had the same problem in the past and it was thermocouple related. It works fine with the primer depressed, which by bypasses the thermocouple. Sanding the thermocouple contacts had worked in the past, but no joy this time around.

    Keeping a Red Dragon Lit

I'm stuck on a tie down in the NE and have a Red Dragon that I use as a backup preheater (I have Reiff cylinder band and oil sump heater that I use primarily). I've had a persistent issue with the Red Dragon not staying lit when I release the primer. In years prior, I used to return it to the...

Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Wash on airplane?

Hmmm, thanks. (That finish on your plane looks great, BTW). I guess I may try the a Turtle Wax stuff since it sounds like it’s harmless. It’s appealing simply because it seems like I could periodically swing through the wash rack, do a quick scrub and rinse, and go fly it with some added...

Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Wash on airplane?

I kind of figured that “ceramic” may be a buzz word. Is the silicon formulation bad for our planes?

Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Wash on airplane?

This is the stuff I’m talking about. I presume it’s a similar formulation to the spray on stuff, but this is a wash and rinse product.

Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Wash on airplane?

Hi Jack Hoping that I may have a hangar option in the not too distant future, but I may not have any paint left by then. :) Appreciate the feedback and confirmation that you use something similar. I may have strayed from the intent of my post - the stuff holds up great on the cars so I’m...

Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Wash on airplane?

Hi Murphey I do have a cabin cover as well as a wing/tail cover set, but I fly nearly every day and they’re just not practical to install/remove with that frequency. I’ve been trying to keep a good coat of wax on the plane but it’s a losing battle and I can see the protection degrade almost...

Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Wash on airplane?

Has anybody used this stuff on their airplane? Works phenomenally on the cars and the guy in the hangar across from me uses it on his Archer. Trying to figure out if it’s indeed safe for planes. I’m on a tie down and fighting a losing battle to keep ahead of the elements with a protective coat...

    IPad Mini control mount

Hi Steve - I mounted a RAM ball on an aluminum instrument blank and installed it in an unused instrument hole on my panel. Works great to have a permanent mount, and I can remove it with four screws and no damage done to the panel. Not sure if your panel will allow this, but if it would it's...
