    Cylinder Head Temperatures

Pulling MP would also save fuel. especially while reducing mixture. But they left it full forward. I fly my 310 the same way. It works great. TAS Aviation, Saavy, and many other experts recommend the same procedure of MP full forward, reduce RPM and lean as necessary. Sent from my iPhone...

    Cylinder Head Temperatures

I guess it depends how old you are and when you learned to fly airplanes with CS props. I lot of older pilots like me have had this engrained in their head that you must pull MP before RPM or you’ll damage the engine. I recently flew with a very experienced and highly respected test pilot. He...

    Cylinder Head Temperatures

I’ll agree to disagree. I would not be concerned seeing 400-425 on take off, especially if it begins to reduce as you accelerate and reduce RPM. If the CHT continued to increase above 425 as you increase speed and reduce RPM, then I would definitely be concerned. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Cylinder Head Temperatures

Been to a few mtx seminars on this. I’m currently at one now and there was discussion on this today. Like all big bore Continentals, I believe the IO-550 is also limited to 460F. The 470, 520, and 550’s get hot on TO. A CHT of 380 is the cruise temp. My 470 gets to 415-420 on take off. I keep it...

    Buying a Baron for Training

It all depends on your qualifications. I have over 7000 hours of ME time, fly professionally, and over 100 in the 310. My insurance still managed to increase. It’s about 3400/yr for me with $170k Hull Value. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Buying a Baron for Training

Not sure what you mean by mtx heavy. I can’t imaging the Baron is any less mtx than the 310. I’m also an A&P on my 310 and can help if you have questions regarding my experience with the 310. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Ksdl killing general aviation

Why do you say “likely Netjets”? Netjets uses Signature and Jet Aviation at SDL. I haven’t heard of any talks of building a hanger. They usually lease the hangers that are already built at our busiest facilities like TEB or SJC. I’ve never heard of Netjets building a hanger, especially at a non...

    Buying a Baron for Training

I think this is a great idea. Have you looked at the 310? I looked heavily at the Baron when doing research in a twin. I ultimately went with the 310Q due to the larger cabin and it sits higher. The Baron has a 42in cabin, 310 is 48in. I haven’t had any issues finding parts for my 310. We have a...

Who can perform Continental Motors SI97-3G

I would join Saavy or give them a call. They have a network of mechanics and they know these engines inside and out. I’ve been very happy with their service. https://www.savvyaviation.com/savvyanalysis/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Retaking knowledge test for higher score.

In over 25 years of commercial flying, I have only been asked if I had ever failed a checkride. I’ve never been asked for a written score or if I ever failed a written exam. Take the 83 and move on. Nobody cares if you made a 90 or 100 on the written. All that matters is taking a passing...

Making sense of the terminology: PBN, RNP, RNAV, AR, ...

Here’s how I keep it straight: GPS WAAS = LP and LPV. (Must have SBAS and WAAS equipment.) Think localizer and ILS, but just using a GPS-WAAS System instead. LPV is my preferred approach if it has 200ft and 1/2 mile mins. GPS = LNAV and LNAV/VNAV (VNAV is advisory only) ILS and VOR = green...

Making sense of the terminology: PBN, RNP, RNAV, AR, ...

In the US it’s RNAV..22L, 31, etc. Outside of the US, it’s called RNP 22L, 31, etc and it may only have LNAV mins. How’s that for confusing? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Full stalls in a multi engine

Just did one in my 310 for my MEI. Key is the set up for the maneuver by slowing to 90kts clean, then introduce power WHILE pitching up with a 20deg bank. You’ll get first indication at about 15 deg of pitch quickly followed by a buffer. Then recover. Very easy. We also did full stalls power...

    Cessna 182 Window Replacement

I second Great Lakes. I replaced all the side windows on my 310 from Great Lakes last year. All of them required some sanding to get the perfect fit. The 310 also has the thin inner window with the U channel and the outer thicker window with vinyl tape. Great company to work with. Yes they do...
