    Avgas Prices Now?

I fly out of the Boston area. 100LL is $6.85 -7.25 in my local area. No signs of it going down. In fact we just went up a few weeks ago at my home field from $6.50 to $6.85 — which is still reasonable compared to the airports around me.

    Reiff vs EZ Heat

Thanks for all the information. The fear is condensation and the expansion differences between the different types of metals in the engine. I will most likely choose either the Reiff or the Tanis over a sump only system.

    Reiff vs EZ Heat

Thank you for your thorough explanation and your logic behind your choice. This gives me a lot to think about. The A&P at my airport recommended the EZ Heat and or the Reiff. The flight school planes that he maintains use the EZ Heat. Your point regarding cylinder head temps is well taken...

    Reiff vs EZ Heat

Thanks Xander, this is good information. The price between the (2) heaters is only $350.00. I’m wondering if the Reiff is overkill or is warming the cylinders necessary versus sump only.

    Carbon Monoxide Detectors

I have a Sensorcon unit — I recommend this equipment. It’s $140.00 well spent for piece of mind. I saw a presentation by Dan Bass about his co2 ordeal and Sensorcon is now in his plane.

    Reiff vs EZ Heat

I have a Piper Cherokee 140 based in the Boston area with tie-down and access to 24/7 power. I need to buy a preheater system for the winter and am looking at (2) models EZ Heat bladder/sump system versus Reiff sump and cylinder system. Is the Reiff overkill or a must have versus a standard sump...

Garmin will continue to support GNS-4XX/5XX for years to come

I spoke with a Garmin avionics rep last night — Oct 15th at an AOPA event in the Boston area. Garmin had a small trade show booth. I asked their rep about this and he basically parroted what is in their letter. To quote, “we have been supporting this unit since conception in 1995. It’s a 25 year...

    Garmin G5’s versus Aspen E5

Let me know how you like flying behind the E5. I'm leaning that way as the the shops I've spoken to said the E5 hasn't been temperamental and is a reliable product. I like the form factor -- size, etc.

    Garmin G5’s versus Aspen E5

No autopilot — just mating it with a GPS. I believe I can remove vacuum system as well — attitude indicator and directional gyro…Cherokee 140.

    Garmin G5’s versus Aspen E5

How many hours install is the Aspen quoted for. Congrats on the purchase. I have a potential good deal on dual G5’s with harnesses used.

    Garmin G5’s versus Aspen E5

I’m looking at a panel upgrade. I know there are older threads but: Now that G5’s and the Aspen E5 have 4+ years of installs, checking to see what the current pros/cons of each are. Reliability, screen definition, install costs, etc.

Best GA Airport Option for Brooklyn

One other option is KBDR -- Bridgeport, CT. Nice airport. Rent a car and take a short drive and catch the auto ferry to Port Jefferson, Long Island. Drive into Brooklyn, reverse commute on the Long Island Expressway post morning rush hour. Puts a little spice into the boring trip to Brooklyn...

What a fantastic way to explore Europe. I always enjoy train travel in that part of the world, but you are giving me a fantastic idea of a September holiday, explore France, Loire valley, Burgundy, Sarlet -- than had up North to Normandy, Brittany, etc. Keep on posting, these are fun to read.

    Back Surgery and Resuming Flying

Yes…I should be off all meds within 6 weeks, other than Tylenol. Once Dr says “all clear” I will gingerly enter the plane. I’m sure it will be at least 90-120 days… if all goes well.

    Back Surgery and Resuming Flying

I had a microdiscectomy last year — been battling one bad disc since 2014. I re-herniated the disc 2x this year. Fortunately this is the only bad disc. The first 6 weeks are critical — as you mentioned, I won’t lift a thing heavier than a book…
