    iPad or iPad Mini?

The angle/perspective might not be perfect but here is a side-by-side with my old iPad 2 and the new Mini.

    Op Spec 052

In short, if the RVR is below mins you can't continue the approach beyond the FAF. Once inside the FAF as long as you have the runway environment in sight, are in a normal position to land, and have the required flight visibility you can land. Even if the RVR goes below mins (once already inside...

    iPad or iPad Mini?

I sold my iPad 2 and bought an iPad mini not too long ago. It works GREAT in the cockpit. Perfect size. The iPad 2 got in the way too often. Hard to put it on a kneeboard due to its size. Just my opinion.

I got harassed by TSA over my contact lens solution last week. The harassment usually has very little to do with anything important.

Need help on centerline alignment short final to touchdown landings

:yeahthat: This is great advice. I did this with all of my primary students to teach control inputs during crosswind landings but it can also be applied in this situation to help with maintaining runway centerline (with or without a crosswind).

    Recurrent Training?

It's mostly an insurance thing. We could technically just do a 61.58 and a 135.293/297/99 ride every year in the airplane, but our insurance requires sim training every 12 months.

How I almost/did fail the checkride because..

The 430/530 series will show a message which says "Select VLOC on CDI for approach" however most people just acknowledge the message and don't read it so the yellow MSG flashing annunciation goes away. Defeats the whole purpose of the message.

How I almost/did fail the checkride because..

Sorry to hear that. I refuse to fly with people like that. Yelling has no place up front.

How I almost/did fail the checkride because..

We used to call the CDI button on the 530/430 the "Pass/Fail" button. It's a common mistake.

    C172 into Known Icing?

When the situation arises where you are contemplating a go/no go decision (in an aircraft not approved for flight into known icing) based on forecast icing or if temps will be at and below 5 deg C at altitude in visible moisture the answer should probably be... no.
