Owners: did you overbuy for your original expected mission?

Congrats on the RV-14! Be sure to post lots of pics here at PoA!

Check "shutting down airport" off my bucket list

Thanks! Something I’ve struggled with is how low my wheel pants sit to the ground. I really can’t see much of the tire, and have no easy access to the valve stem. Does anyone else with an RV have a good technique or solution?

Check "shutting down airport" off my bucket list

After 1300nm, just landed at the final destination of my trip. On touchdown, my right main tire immediately blew out. I skidded to a halt on the runway. For the life of me, I can't understand what happened. It wasn't my best landing, but it wasn't that bad, either. Fortunately, it was late at...

    Insurance for 65 and older

When you put it that way, you’re absolutely right. However, liability is my major concern. EDIT: and yes, I expect to NEVER total my aircraft.

    Insurance for 65 and older

Tough one...that really depends 3% would be the tipping point for me. I currently pay around 1.2%

Someone asked that in the latest YouTube video comments. Peter replied, "Yes, it will." So there you have it ;-)

    GPS and Instrument training

I think folks have answered pretty well. I'll add my two cents as well. No, you don't need a GPS in the plane to get your instrument rating. However, it's getting increasingly hard to get your three different approach types without one. As already mentioned, learning will go fairly quickly. You...

Since it's somewhat ubiquitous, I always use "RV", but did get mistaken for "Army" once.

Is a lancair IV safe for ex military pilot

Not being a jerk...just genuinely curious. How can any aircraft discharge static electricity without a ground? If I'm flying my metal RV through convective activity and pick up some charge, while airborne, it has nowhere to go. Even when I land, my tires would be a good insulator. Again, not...

    Reported Visibility

Just got back from a similar flight: KLXT - KIDA - KRNO - KGCN - KLXT. The smoke got so bad into Reno that I lost sight of the ground (at 4000 AGL). However, the ATIS said visibility 3 mi, but clear below 12,000. I ended up IFR into there. I don't think it's just vertical vs horizontal. I...

Man, is it ever! I'm watching that one closely.

Money Changes Everything - Experimental Savings

Let’s not be so quick to part ways. My RV had 750 TT when I bought it. GTN-650, 2-axis TruTrak, EDM 900, Dynon D10...almost all glass, IFR certified. I paid $70k. That’s comparable to a similarly equipped M20E.

Money Changes Everything - Experimental Savings

@steingar I love your passion for your Mooney! I’m just as passionate about my -9A. We’ve had a few discussions on other threads about these two planes. For me, after looking long and hard at the M20E, for a similar acquisition price, I got a machine that trues at 155kts on 8gph, fixed gear...

Money Changes Everything - Experimental Savings

If you can get a medical now, do it. Then get Basic Med and never look back. No need to limit yourself to LSA prematurely.

GTX 45R Squawk input via GTN

Anyone in a similar situation have any suggestions/recommendations?

GTX 45R Squawk input via GTN

    Dang it. That’s disappointing.

GTX 45R Squawk input via GTN

Man, I hope you’re right. I’ve been going through the manual, and I see clearly the GTN can supply the GPS signal for the 45R, as well as receive traffic and weather. Is it implied that it can set the squawk codes? I don’t see that explicitly.
