Aircraft and parts prices out of control

Who spends all the time and effort to learn to fly, then goes and buys a 172? I mean, a 182 maybe. in either case, if you need 4 seats, an RV-10 blows them (and a Cirrus) out of the water.

Aircraft and parts prices out of control

^ this was a much more succinct way of saying what I said

Aircraft and parts prices out of control

This comes back to the regulatory burden for certified aircraft manufacturers. Vans is able to offer low-priced kits because they don’t have the burden that Cirrus does. that’s why, for roughly the same plane, you can buy and build an Rv-10 for $250K vs $700k+ for an SR22. I bet both...

Aircraft and parts prices out of control

You beat me to it. E/AB is the future.

Aircraft and parts prices out of control

I fixed your quote. But seriously, I honestly think E/AB is the only affordable way to fly and maintain a somewhat modern aircraft.

    Raptor Aircraft

Going down a bit of a rabbit hole, but thinking about my plane (RV), or any other GA fixed-gear, why not make the gear 6-inches longer? My guess is the engineers have probably optimized the drag vs prop efficiency. would be any easy-ish and fun experiment to do on an experimental.

    Clarity Aloft

Bummer to hear that. What was the problem a what was the resolution? I was prepared for the worst when they said it was out of warranty, but pleasantly surprised when they said it was a known issue and fixed it at no charge.

    Clarity Aloft

Not sure what forum to post this in, but thought I'd share. I bought a CA Classic in late 2017/early 2018. Over time, the wiring on the earpieces began to fray, first the insulation, then the wiring itself. Eventually, I started getting an intermittent connection, then none at all. I sent the...

    Memorable Resturants on/near field

And the most ridiculously big (and delicious) pancakes. My wife and I fly in on occasion and split one!

Horsepower required for same airspeed at higher altitude

Yes. For long XC, every day at 2600 rpm. Wide open throttle. CHTs around 385 and oil temp around 190. Is there any reason why one wouldn’t want to do this (other than economy fuel burn)?

    Thoughts on Vans RV?

And I wouldn't shy away from either configuration of an RV. They're great planes. For the record, I've spent $0 on nosewheel-related issues in over 15 years of flying.

    Thoughts on Vans RV?

A lot of examples, including mine, have the anti-splat mod. It’s elegant and really effective. I regularly land on grass strips with no worries. https://antisplataero.com/products/the-nose-job-two

    Thoughts on Vans RV?

I'll add another datapoint to the Vans RV: Year 1: Vans RV 80k hull No IFR 400 hrs (none in type) $1150/YR Year 2 (and 3) Vans RV 80k hull IFR 600 hrs $950/yr

    Thoughts on Vans RV?

Yes, I plan for 155KTAS on 8 to 8.5gph, depending on altitude.

    Thoughts on Vans RV?

Is the -6 baggage area that much smaller than the -9? The wife and I just took a trip from Kansas City to Destin, FL in our -9A. All our baggage, a cooler, and full fuel. No problems. That 4 hr trip in the -9A would have been 6 in a 172. No Thanks.

    Thoughts on Vans RV?

I think they're very cool, but they are tight. I'm not a big guy at all, but I parked next to one a couple of weeks ago and thought it'd be pretty uncomfortable for XC.

"A Sucker Is Born Every Minute" Dept.

Google doesn’t come up with any information about either this plane or the company. I’d be interested to learn more. How many deposits did they take? How much capital did they dwindle? Etc.
