    T-hangars near Plano

Just heard back from KTKI. For anyone else that might be interested: They have a waitlist for T-hangars from several months to over a year. T-hangars are $410/mo. Shared hangar space is $572 - $618/mo.

    T-hangars near Plano

I haven’t picked an area. The job is at ABB on 601 Shiloh rd. I’d want a 30 min commute or less. Preferably 15 min or less to airport.

Considering a job in Plano. What are the options for GA? Seems like KTKI is a decent bet. Can anyone comment on availability and lease rate? Others? thanks!

    Vans RV6A purchase question

Agree with @steingar here. I did my IFR in my RV-9A, which has a longer, more stable wing, and it is still really hard to hand-fly approaches accurately. EDIT: But definitely buy the -6A...you'll love it!

    Wisdom from experience

Man, I continue to learn every flight. Ive had my plane for 2yrs, ~250hrs, and I’m amazed at how much I continually learn.

I have first-hand experience with this. Field wiring on my alternator broke on an XC. Landed at closest field. Rode with the mechanic to the hardware store, got some spade connectors, crimped them on and was back in the air in an hour. Those parts wouldn’t have been allowed in a certified...

How much retract time do you have? I didn’t have any and was looking at a Glasair. I was able to get a quote, but at $8k, it was clear they didn’t want to insure me. I ended up with an RV-9A (insurance is $950/yr). It’s an honest 155kts on 8.5 gph, with me, the wife, and 100lbs of bags. I...

    Propeller windmilling, the truth

I know not everyone is a fan of this, but I practice both pulling the throttle to idle, as well as completely shutting the engine off: https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/engine-out-practice.124291/ If you practice both ways, you'll have a feel for how your plane actually (not...

    IFR Flight Plan Dropped Off

I’ve had my plan not be there a few times over the years. In every case, after looking into it, it was a mistake I had made. I either entered the wrong time, wrong date, or in one case, forgot to check the “file” checkbox.

Fuel onboard during emergencies: gals/lbs or time?

Since I enter time on my flight plan, switch my tanks every hour in flight, and monitor how much time I have until empty, I’ll reply with time.

Why do they always call me Skyhawk?

Are you a Citation or a piston single at roughly 110kts? I’m guessing that’s all that really matters for traffic management.

Aircraft and parts prices out of control

Hmmmm. The 172 is a fantastic trainer. The 182 is a good all-around plane. I have LOTS of hours in both. They were great for the $100 burger or short trips as a member of a club. For those that have a specific mission: STOL, XC, etc, there are better options. If I were making a plane, I probably...

Unfortunately, it’s a PITA to take my Vans cowling off, too. Not as easy as a car for sure. Plus, I have to take my wheel pants off to check my tire pressure.

Wow. I’m really surprised to hear everyone’s negative experiences. I guess I either just got lucky, or they’ve made a change to improve customer customer service.
