Well everybody ELSE can make a left turn, why can't you???

‘Zackly. Just because the previous 5 aircraft made that turn doesn’t mean that it’s safe for the 6th. Weather moves and changes. Keep in mind that the radar on the FlightAware track is a static snapshot during the flight, so we can’t see what it looked like when this all started or how it...

'Report 4 mile base for runway two five left' - meaning?

The GPS reference point for the airport is whatever the LAT/LON listed for the airport is, which is somewhere in the middle. Your GPS doesn't know how to tell you how far it is to the end of the runway. The reference is usually halfway down the runway at an airport with a single runway, but...

    Time Building Problem

Are you sure about those figures? Some quick math in my head makes that seem more than optimistic. And don't forget the opportunity costs. You'll spend a couple of years making up that extra 500 hours, and the difference in salary between a right seater in a regional jet and what you'll make...

    Time Building Problem

Answering the original question: AOPA's flying club network shows a club at KTPL 37 minutes away. https://www.facebook.com/templeaeroclub/ Rentals/Instruction may be available here: http://texasaero.com/ here: https://www.s3inc.com/home/kbfs-home/ Now, on to the plan... I'll just get to the...

    172 replacement

Do you need 4 seats? Or does 2 seats and a little baggage do it for you? Maybe an RV-9? I think it's hard to gain a lot without also spending a lot. A 182 in your budget is going to be an older one, and your fuel burn is going to go up 50% or so. The Grumman Tiger option sounds like a good...

    ADSB question / collisions

We're taking about ADS-B compliance for safety. Out is the minimum equipment level to meet the regs, and Out does not receive other aircraft positions, it just sends yours. Sure, there are cheap portable In solutions, but that doesn't help in this context. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    ADSB question / collisions

You need ADS-B In to see other traffic, and ADS-B In is much more expensive than out. It's not foolproof, but it is pretty good. There are circumstances where the ADS-B tower won't send or receive information very well, so an aircraft may drop off the screen for a moment.

I'm dying to see this. Any pics out there someplace?

    FltPlan Go x Foreflight

Like @midlifeflyer says, what's important to you can change, and my needs are not quite what I anticipated. My top 3 were Garmin Pilot, Foreflight, and WingX. WingX was quickly dropped because I decided that I wanted vector charts. FF's web-based flight planning is pretty awesome and I use it...

    Tales of a Rusty Pilot

Rooney, so glad to hear that the 2nd flight was so much better for you! Turning the corner about how you feel about flying and your potential is going to make the rest of it come back more easily. If I can offer some advice about introducing the kids: rule # 1 is to set expectations. Rule #2...

Flying club ... requesting feedback regarding rates.

@woodchucker, it's tough to tell if that's a good deal. Maybe. The planes have basic panels but appear to be in good shape. It's difficult to compare prices directly between clubs. You need to take a look at the finances and how the club is operated. If the club is well-managed, the fees...

A forward sliding canopy? Or one that tips up?

Why is the Lancair IV-P so dangerous?

Perhaps. Since I don't know the guy or his flying skills personally, I prefer not to speculate on the future outcome of his flying. He appears to have a small stable of aircraft that require a fair amount of skill to fly well, much less at all. I also recall part of the story was that he...

Why is the Lancair IV-P so dangerous?

I recall there being a big flap about him flying it off his grass strip and the LOBO instructors not willing to allow that, either. Seems like it would have been a decent decision to jst do it the LOBO way until checked out, but he insisted on doing what he wanted from the get-go.

Popularity (or lack thereof) of Sport Planes

I think it's a pretty simple matter of business economics. It's enormously expensive and difficult to bring a normal category plane to market, and even harder to bring an aerobatic one to market. The need is tiny (maybe 1% of the pilot population?), so there aren't enough potential sales to...

    FltPlan Go x Foreflight

According to Garmin’s site, you can connect a 430w if you have a flight stream 210. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/153681#overview Only you can decide whether flightplan.go is what you should be using. When I chose an EFB, I listed the features I wanted and chose the one that had the most...

    Kayak in a C172N

Can't see why it would be illegal, though you'd be tying up the runway for a while so it might be an inconvenience to others who want to use it. I think you'd catch hell if anyone caught you walking on the tarmac, too.

This guy didn't even try to stop it

Think any damaged happened to the landing gear box or the gear attach points?

    Kayak in a C172N

While the runway goes nearly up to the water's edge, parking is at the other end. Whatever you get, you'll be walking nearly a mile with it on grass or dirt trails. What if you loaded it underneath and rigged a release so you could air drop it on short final to 04? :D

    Tales of a Rusty Pilot

Thanks for sharing your story. As I read it, I kept thinking "This guy recognizes his mistakes, it'll start coming back quickly." 20 years does a lot to a body. Reflexes are a hair slower, our eyes don't focus as quickly, our brains don't learn as quickly, muscle memory takes longer to...
