    Ornery controllers?

Are there any sectors that you don't enjoy being transferred to because the controllers are unpleasant to deal with? I flew with someone a while back who did not get flight following after we departed because he didn't want to deal with some particular controllers. Any sectors near you with a...

    High Density Altitude take offs

For the Bonanzas (from the BPPP program): "In general, at heavy weights, using flaps for takeoff results in a small, but noticeable improvement in both ground roll and obstacle clearance distances. At light weights, using flaps makes very little difference regardless of density altitude."

Turn on course / turn out - what exactly does that mean?

I'll throw this in the ring for the "how soon can you turn" question: ...climbing to 400 feet above the departure end of runway elevation before making the initial turn... https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/aim_html/chap5_section_2.html

    7-4 Bonanza down near Aspen

If you're flying behind glass you might want to spend three minutes watching this to familiarize yourself with the flight path marker feature, it could save your life. Start at 40:21 (can you link to a time in a youtube video here?):

    Help me with a trip?

Yeah, probably worse case I'll keep our rental and drive us back and then drive back for the plane. That wouldn't be fun, but might be better than dying prematurely. I've done that before, but that was a two hour drive, so it's a little more pressure for this long of a drive.

    Help me with a trip?

I went back and checked, and thought it might be interesting to post the relevant NOTAMs, raw and then decoded: AP CLSD EXC VFR TFC (Airport Closed Except Visual Flight Rules Traffic) RWY 15/33 CLSD TO ACFT MORE THAN 12500LB (Runway 15/33 Closed to Aircraft MORE THAN 12500LB) But here's the...

    Help me with a trip?

We took off about 8 this morning. The first 80% of the flight was uneventful, but I had to do some left and rights and a climb up to nearly 10,000 at the end to deal with pop-ups (cruised at 8,500), but it never got bumpy. The airport runway was closed and I landed on the taxiway, which was...

    Help me with a trip?

Bonanza, so piston single and VFR. I'm flexible on going tomorrow or Sunday, but less flexible on the return, which needs to be on Wednesday.

    Help me with a trip?

I'm attempting to take the Bonanza to Texas either tomorrow or Sunday and then return on Wednesday; this is for a vacation with my family. If anyone is bored and wants to give me an opinion on how do-able you think that trip is (KBTR-KCPT) with the weather forecast, I'd be appreciative for an...

    Electric Scooter 2021

I ran into a guy the other day who had just bought a couple of Jupiter Bikes (X5) to put in the back of his Mooney. I didn't ride it, but I gave them a pretty good once over while I was there chatting with him. I guess the only way I could make this work is if my wife and I use only backpacks...

Cruise Altitude Shortest Flight Time with Best Economy

The Carson number might be of interest here. "So how do we find this optimum place at which we get the biggest increase in airspeed for the smallest fuel penalty? Simply multiply your airplane’s best-glide speed by 1.316—or add 32 percent—and that’s the Carson number."...

    Battery Maintainer

Same as GaryM, I have a Concorde battery and the this maintainer. Pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things, and I have power in my hangar, so seemed like a reasonable thing to do.

Best ADS-B to use with iFly app on iPad?

iFly user here as well. They support a lot of devices, I normally use it with my Dynon Skyview Wifi, or one of the Levil Aviation devices. For something cheaper, I think I've seen a number of the pilots on the iFly forum using the Stratux device.

    The Quiet Star

In 1968, the US Army published a specification for an observation aircraft that could not be heard from the ground when at a minimum altitude of 1,200ft. Lockheed received a contract for two prototypes and in 1966, built two QT-2 Quiet Thruster aircraft. These were modified Schweizer SGS 2-32...
