    When does it click?

It'll click when it clicks. Every person is different, every training situation is different. The good news is that once it 'clicks' it sticks...oh wait...no...it doesn't. Step away from the plane for a week or two and you'll be back to making dumb mistakes. Flying isn't like riding a bike...

Any experience with sport pilot FAA examiners?

I'm on my 3rd cancelled check ride due to weather since Jan. The only DPE in the area books 8 weeks out and already has 7 people on standby so I'm looking at June for my next try so I'm getting desperate to get this done. I've read that the FAA folks tend to be 'by the numbers, exactly by the...

    New Traffic Pattern Advisory Circular

I had one last week. I fly out of KGVL and the Army Rangers were doing drops northwest of the airport at 3 different locations. When I got to the airport, the drop plane was parked at the FBO.

How do acrobatic Planes do loops, etc.?

I had a co-worker some years ago who was a pilot. He went to an airshow and loved the way the Blues were doing aileron rolls. Next time he was up in his plane (probably a 172 or similar) he cranked the controls to the left to roll. He kind of forgot that he had way more lift/weight and a lot...

How do you CFI's fly from the RH seat?

My CFI says it feels weird being in the left seat...sight picture is all messed up.

Does anyone have a SPL course syllabus?

I used the Gleim SP book. I think they didn't remove items that are on PP that are not on SP; like using VORs. I had no questions about anything that wasn't relevant to SP. The FAA SP has fewer questions (yeah..fewer questions. boo...each 'miss' is more costly). Do the Gleim. Do it again and...

    Nervous about flying

Try flying early in the morning; way less dirty air before the ground heats up. See if you can get a few clear air days under your belt and then realize that the kind of turbulence you're flying in is no big deal (I'm assuming you're not flying near thunderstorms!) so just let the plane rock and...

    Saving the LSA/SPL

I can't speak for the OP but the LSA rentals are cheaper than other aircraft, I have no desire to fly at night, IFR, long distance, or with lots of people in the plane. I like low, slow, and small just fine so SP is a perfect fit for what I'm after. I've probably only got 10 years of flying left...

Want To Buy Flight Simulator for my Home

I'm a Sport Pilot student. I use X-Plane 11 with a Saitek yoke, rudder pedals, and throttle quadrant run off a Dell laptop onto a flat screen TV. I used it initially as a glorified 'chair flight' system; getting used to flying the pattern, setting RPMs, maintaining altitude, etc. It helped a...

Leaving left hand pattern to the rightat uncontrolled airport

OK, so I spent time with my CFI today. He says that either a straight out exit pattern, right turn to the SW OR the pattern altitude/cross mid-field work and are acceptable to the DPE. He says discussing my plans with the DPE is a good idea so the DPE knows What I'm thinking. When I asked about...

Leaving left hand pattern to the rightat uncontrolled airport

2 miles makes sense; that puts me out beyond a 1 mile pattern. Let me play with that a bit as well as discuss with my CFI.

Leaving left hand pattern to the rightat uncontrolled airport

Checkride is next month so I have a bit of time. We've discussed standard pattern work and departures. The nuances of 'how to get from point A to point B on a cross country so you hit your checkpoints and times' sort of popped up for me as I sat down to plan the XC portion of the checkride. I...

Leaving left hand pattern to the rightat uncontrolled airport

Not sure it was made up on the spot. I am finding that there are lots of opinions on the right way to do <stuff> so I'm always looking for how different people approach a situation. The issue/confusion I have with 'by the book' is that it really doesn't go beyond the 'straight out or 45 to the...

Leaving left hand pattern to the rightat uncontrolled airport

Whu Whuuuu??? You mean talk to the DPE??? ;-) Just curious, let's say I briefed 'straight out, past the pattern, then right turn to the SW'. If he had a problem with that would he say something right there or would he let me take that path then bust me if he thought it was unacceptable? I had a...

Leaving left hand pattern to the rightat uncontrolled airport

Thank you all. I think I'll avoid any right turns just so I don't get into a discussion with the DPE. I had this conversation with someone a few weeks back and they recommended that I do the following: Departure, left crosswind, left downwind at pattern altitude, turn left at midfield, cross...

Leaving left hand pattern to the rightat uncontrolled airport

Setup: Runway runs east-west Airport has light to moderate traffic Desired flight path is to the southwest If I depart on the west runway, I just turn 45 and exit the pattern. How would you get from the departure leg on the east runway to a southwest heading. What is the best practice and...

N/A How many children are enough?

There is no right answer that anyone can provide for you. You're life is different from every other life. Your situation is different from every other one. What works for one person is absolutely the wrong thing for another. This one you gotta own and figure out by yourself. The only advice...

Hope you didn't have any VFR plans for today - Southeast US

My checkride is re-re-rescheduled for 02.Mar...I'm hoping it blows in like a lamb and out like a lion... Oh, and my lesson for this afternoon just got flushed... :-(

Where do GPS units set the center of an airport?

I was flying yesterday and popped open ForeFlight to do track logs. I zoomed in on GVL and it turns out the airport center is marked on the map! It was pretty much where you could guestimate as the center. Ain't technology wunnerful?

Where do GPS units set the center of an airport?

Oh, that's good too. I should be able to use Google Earth to find the spot on any given airport. Thanks
