    Suddenly jonesing to own

This is not another 'should I buy <plane x>' thread. I'm looking for help getting information on the process of buying and owning. I just got my Sport Pilot and had no intention of buying; I've got maybe 10 years left before I shouldn't be flying so I figured the cost to own was net less than...

    Chances for oldtimer learner

I started at 63. Got my certificate about a year later (weather delays compounded with busy DPE added almost 6 months to the process). Yes, it's too expensive. I fly light sport. The plane was $130/hr wet at a discounted rate and the CFI $70/hr. Getting to the checkride was 'spensive. But then...

    Takeoff Ground Roll

He doesn't say what he's flying but in the Skycatcher to get over a 50' obstacle you need (per the POH) between 1000' and 2800' (sea level at 0C vs 8000' at 40C). Ground roll at sea level/0C is 570'.

Best app to track flight path

I use ForeFlight for planning and logging then push the track log to CloudAhoy; best of both worlds. CloudAhoy is working on a 'CFI' feature that grades your performance. Your track is dissected into specific maneuvers and your performance compared to expected values. They don't have...

    Looking for KDED advice.

I called them today and they gave me the scoop. They said if I bought 20 gallons of fuel, I'd get one or two days free parking. That's gonna be a stretch since the Skycather only holds 24...they said we might be able to work something out so we'll see.

    Looking for KDED advice.

Awesome input! Thank you. I'm a 'basic' sport pilot so no endorsements for B,C, or D airspace. My route keeps me out of any of that airspace and I'm flying over/under/around restricted or other special use airspace. I'll flag the towers south of the airport and I have my flight plan set to dial...

    Looking for KDED advice.

I know about the parachute jumping but didn't look specifically for times. I'll review that before I head down.

    Looking for KDED advice.

Oh, that I know! Entry into the pattern around a non-towered airport seems to be a religious activity. I'm hoping some of the locals chip in advice for what they see/prefer and what works. I am actually doing pilotage/de(a)d reckoning on the flight with FF and the G300 as backups. I'm kind of...

    NA - Retirement recon? NA

Everybody dies. When...who knows? My folks are nearly 90 and doing great for being that old. You could have 5 years or 35 years. Live like you have 35, deal with the aches and pains, and stay busy. I'm 64 and had the same kind of discussion with myself. Even 30 years is going to go fast so I'm...

    Looking for KDED advice.

I'll be taking my first long distance XC late August from KGVL to KDED with an arrival time of about noon. I'd like to arrive looking like I know how the locals do things so any advice is appreciated. I'll be coming in from the north in an LSA. I have a copy of the noise abatement procedure and...

Slipping or Crabbing in a Crosswind?

This is from my POH: When landing in a strong crosswind, use the minimum flap setting required for the field length. Sideslips with full rudder deflection, may be made in all flap configurations. Although the crab or combination method of drift correction may be used, the wing low method gives...

Well everybody ELSE can make a left turn, why can't you???

Whew! After I replied, I had the horrible thought you were making a joke about my subject line and I had missed the joke...I've done that before...humor in text is hard!

Well everybody ELSE can make a left turn, why can't you???

Good to know. It certainly didn't fit my picture of comms at busy airports. I was also under the impression that the PIC is in control and if they say 'nope', then that's it...ATC needs to come up with something different.

    Checklist app?

Then give it a go. I think it'll depend on what your actual cockpit workflow turns into. You may find the FF version does everything you want in a way that fits your workflow. The list is easy to modify so you can add notes that help you and rearrange things if you want. Go for it.

    Checklist app?

Ditto. I tried electronic and a laminated sheet is just faster/easier to work with.

Well everybody ELSE can make a left turn, why can't you???

I was curious if the level of intensity (when I land I'll have my boss call your boss) was uncommon.

Well everybody ELSE can make a left turn, why can't you???

Click the link. It's a recording of ATC and an aircraft that got a bit...intense.

I don't fly into airports with control towers. Is this normal?

Requirements for entering Mode C veil that isn't Class B airspace

Well that makes things simple! I've been studiously avoiding flying anywhere near ATL (new sport pilot...don't want to muck up). Once I'm a bit more comfortable, I'll take a shot at landing at those airports.

Requirements for entering Mode C veil that isn't Class B airspace

KCVC sits inside the ATL Mode C veil but outside of the Bravo airspace. There are a few other airports that are inside the veil but below Bravo. I know you need specific clearance to enter Bravo but am not sure what's required for airports like CVC. I'm excluding any Charley or Delta airports...
