What was that about AoA again?

I amended my post. Option 3 it is. I'll try and get with him after he'd done with his deployment to see if he recalls the conversation and clarify what he was trying to tell me.

What was that about AoA again?

I got it from a Rhino aviator. I guess he didn't know what he was talking about even though it happened to him on one landing.

What was that about AoA again?

The F/A 18's have a similar system to pitch the nose down if the AoA is out of whack. Fun fact, the back of a carrier is full of turbulent air and when you fly into that, the AoA thinks 'hmmm...we have a problem so let's just dump the nose down a few degrees'...like right at the fan tail. From...

Crazed Pilot in the ear headset

<Edit>: I totally missed the 'in ear' part of the post; my bad. My information is about the over the ear version. I did have a chance to fly with a set of Lightspeed over ear ANRs this week (the flight center rents them out for $5 or $10). No instruction provided so I may have missed something...

    Training in advance?

Ahhh...that makes sense. I took the course, printed out the completioin certificate, showed it to my CFI, he seemed unclear about its intent, and then he put an endorsement in my log book. I kept the printed cert but the DPE only looked at the log book endorsement.

    Training in advance?

    2) Do ground school on line 2a) Get a CFI endorsement to take the written 2b) Take the written Can't take the test without an endorsement in your log book.

    Training in advance?

That '20 hour' thing? Nope unless you move into the flight school, fly every day, and push like hell. I was probably ready for the practical at between 40 and 50 hours but got screwed up with weather multiple times and ended up with nearly 100 before I passed the check ride. (fair disclosure...

    Is this all worth it?

Training, for me, was never fun; it was work...all of it...the regs, flight planning, landing, maneuvers, landing, weather, ,and landing. I had more than one crisis of faith during my (way too long) training but stuck with it and got the SP cert. Flying is still work; managing a flight is not...

I think I did the allowed thing....

Yeah. I am doing that more often and just didn't this time. I've had spotty results with people responding which is kind of frustrating but, hey, we don't really need to even have radios, right? The other thing I'm still learning is aircraft speeds. 10 miles out for a Skycatcher is way different...

I think I did the allowed thing....

Tantalum, thanks. It was one of those things that hit me about the time he called 8 miles, right pattern for 5. At that point I realized I caused him to change his plan. It all worked out and I didn't detect any frustration on the radio. It was an overall odd day. Wind favored 29 and a couple...

I think I did the allowed thing....

But maybe not the smart thing. Un-towered airport. Flying a Skycatcher. I'm doing run up on 23. Citation calls straight in for 05, 10 miles out about the time I finish and get ready to take off. I'm thinking, he's out and not in the pattern, 10 miles...I should be able to take off, turn left...

Flight cancelled due to wind - where can I get wind (and other) data?

Ground ops 22 knot max with demonstrated cross wind of 12 knots. There's a reference in the POH for 'Max wind velocity all operations' of 22 knots. I'm not sure if I've been up with winds at or above that speed. I do know that the flight center grounds the Skycatcher at 20 knot ground winds...

    Should I go to College?

There is no 'right' answer. Any path you take will likely land you on a path you hadn't thought of. I'm kind of a Mike Rowe fan; don't follow your passion, bring your passion to whatever you do and good things will happen. (see MR for more on this). I started out as a chemist (hospital...

    I have a weird question

I'm still fairly new with just a bit over 150 hours total Light Sport. I rarely find myself nervous when I'm flying but, man, do I ever second guess and obsess over stuff at 2 am...I'll wake up in a cold sweat when I realize that <thing I did that worked out OK> could have been <details at 11>...

    Google Earth Flight Path Visualization

I don't have Google Earth on my system so thanks for the vids; I understand what you're trying to do! You might want to hook up with the good folks at CloudAhoy. That provides amazing post-flight debriefs including 'in cockpit' views of your flight (disclaimer: I'm not associated with CA but I...

Finally starting to feel like a pilot

Got my sport cert in June after a bit over a year of training (weather got in the way of the checkride for 5 months of that time). 2 weeks ago I completed a long XC from GVL to DED and back. Total flight time each way was a bit over 4 hours with one pit stop half-way at AZE. While I used GPS...
