Delta pilot caught boozing the preflight

Delta pilots have not had pensions since 2005.

    What a zoo!

A good pilot uses all available information in the pattern. He scans outside, listens to the radio, makes proper radio calls and checks ADSB data. He also flies a proper pattern. The last is often the biggest mistake.

LATAM 787 incident caused by FA?

It has not been released at this point what happened. It’s possible it was the switch but even if the switch actuated the seat full forward it should not have caused a control displacement unless the pilot was in a odd position or obese. There are lots of other scenarios where the controls could...

    Boeing’s on a streak...

The aircraft most likely to have a serious inflight issue is the Airbus A329/321 NEO. The engine and gear box assembly should probably be grounded. They have imposed massive inspection and overhual requirements but the problems are getting worse.

LATAM 787 incident caused by FA?

There is nothing out saying the rocker switch was defective. Boeing is doing its due diligence and simply advising everyone to check the switches. I suspect when the final report comes out the switch was just fine.

I don’t understand when or how patterns morphed into these huge things. CFI’s need to start teaching. Bigger is not better!

LATAM 787 incident caused by FA?

The auto pilot will remain engaged up to a certain control column force is applied. Once you exceed that value the auto pilot will disengage and the control column move instantly in response to the force.

    RPM loss

In line with the post above make sure your fuel tanks are properly vented and the vent system has no clogs. I don’t think it’s ignition as that is usually a plug not firing and would not cause the engine to go to idle. It’s also instantly easy to diagnose that with a HDX. Go through the entire...

Do you think a bachelors degree will ever become necessary again to become a pilot at the airlines?

; Major airlines are generally not that focused on time and ratings. If you meet the mins they assume you have some flying ability. What they are looking for is what the overall quality of the individual is and how will they fit managing a flight. Managing is what you do these days. Poor...

Do you think a bachelors degree will ever become necessary again to become a pilot at the airlines?

From a CP at one major airline and a friend working in hiring at another. All the majors as I mention track applicant performance and feed that back into their hiring preferences.

Do you think a bachelors degree will ever become necessary again to become a pilot at the airlines?

A degree is not required at major airlines currently but the percentage of pilots hired off the street is extremely low. The major airlines all track the performance of applicants and new hires without degrees have struggled. As the applicant pool gets deeper it will get harder to get hired. Get...

    PA-32 /N8963N Down Feb 24,2024

The weather 25 miles away should have no bearing on a takeoff decision. The pilot departed knowing what he was doing was illegal.

Boeing's streak continues: 737 Gear Collapse

The situation in AMS is generally self induced. The 300 degree takeoff limit is not actually for brake performance. It is a FAA requirement dealing with the flashpoint of hydraulic fluid should a leak occur in the wheel wells. The AMS problem is induced by pilots who refuse to single engine taxi...

Boeing's streak continues: 737 Gear Collapse

Interesting, the recommended technique I was taught on every aircraft was use reverse thrust at high speed where it is most effective with braking at lower speeds to reduce long term brake wear. Regardless a normal landing on a 10,000 foot runway should not stress the brakes in the least on a...

Boeing's streak continues: 737 Gear Collapse

The brakes on transport category aircraft are designed to be fully functional on a high speed abort where the speed of the aircraft and gross weight are significantly higher than any landing. Since brake energy goes up with the square of speed and weight what you post should never be an issue...

Boeing's streak continues: 737 Gear Collapse

Look at the pictures of the skid marks and listen to the ATC audio. Even if the rudder pedals were stuck you can use the tiller or simply brake to a stop before the end of the runway as is customary. ATC: Cleared to exit at the end of the runway, speed permitting!

FIKI cert Mooney adequate for regular winter trips to Newfoundland and Labrador from New England?

There is no reason you can’t check a bag jumpseating. I did it all the time.
