Flying the right seat (do I need a CFI)

You will take the CFI checkride from the right seat. So if that's the plan after Commercial, it might make sense to get used to everything from that side earlier which then makes the addition of talking/teaching a little easier (fewer new things added). That said, transitioning from left seat to...

Flying the right seat (do I need a CFI)

Around here, Commercial students often train in the right seat and take the checkride in the right seat. The idea is that you'll be so comfortable there (and the maneuvers are the same) that you'll just need to work on talking/teaching while you fly to be ready for the flight portion of the CFI...

    ForeFlight, new (to me) feature

A few years ago I requested a way to set up and save custom "views" in Foreflight. For instance, if I'm flying VFR, I probably want a sectional chart, TFRs, radar, etc. If I'm IFR, I may want the Low IFR, no weather layers, etc. This could certainly include the ribbon bar as well. The response I...

    Questions for the CFI's

@denverpilot probably covered this, but I have a limited data plan so couldn’t afford to download his novels. [emoji6] It takes some practice to realize it, but you’re trimming for a particular AIRSPEED. Here’s an exercise that might help solidify this concept: Go to the practice area at an...

Any CFIs feel like they wouldn't be very good at it initially?

During my last day of CFI checkride prep, I told my instructor that either I was getting more comfortable talking/drawing/explaining or I was just getting more comfortable sounding like an idiot. (I really wasn’t sure which it was.) Either way, keep at it and you’ll get beyond some of the...

    Really, Amazon?!?!?

I assumed it was because you weren't wearing any clothes when you took the photo of the plane and, because it was so clean, you were visible in the reflection.

    Flight Instructor Insurance

It's been a few months since I went through this, but here's the info I was able to gather: https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/cfi-liability-insurance.107094/ Ultimately, I just went to work (part time) for the local school rather than deal with the personal liability stuff.

The world's most polite radio call? OR Why is my passenger crying?!?!

LOL. Informative and funny at the same time!

The world's most polite radio call? OR Why is my passenger crying?!?!

None taken! If I had to choose between flying with you or those ladies... well, it’s been nice flying with ya!

    Woot! Passed the written

Well put. And any incentive to learn more is, obviously, good. Congrats again!

    Woot! Passed the written

Congratulations! I’m curious, when I took the test a few years ago, it seemed extremely disconnected from reality. The best advice I got back then was “Pass the written, then learn the REAL stuff in training.” Did it seem like a reasonable test or is it still... strange?

    Sexy Sue

Hopefully the paint job on the airplane doesn’t cause an issue here (paging @mscard88), but a cool airplane and some great aerial shots of it from a helicopter.

Leaving left hand pattern to the rightat uncontrolled airport

That's not a bad way to call it, though I'd probably just call a straight out departure. Climb to pattern altitude before turning and keep the climb going in the turn. By the time you're back to/near the airport environment, you're probably 1000'+ above pattern altitude. And by then I'm already...

Leaving left hand pattern to the rightat uncontrolled airport

Any concern about climbing into turbine traffic on downwind (typically 500' higher pattern altitude)?

Leaving left hand pattern to the rightat uncontrolled airport

AIM 4-3-3 says: "If departing the traffic pattern, continue straight out, or exit with a 45 degree turn (to the left when in a left-hand traffic pattern; to the right when in a right-hand traffic pattern) beyond the departure end of the runway, after reaching pattern altitude." If you want to...

How much harder is IFR then Private?

If that's the plan, take the CPL and CFI writtens together. They're essentially the same test. (Also, so is the AGI, if you're interested in that... if for no other reason that to "lock in" your FOI.)

Falcon Heavy Test Flight in 15 mins!

Pretty sure they lost the center core, based on this (go to 38:28, because I can't figure out how to do that for you in the link):

Can you really not hear the music (it’s there)? Or maybe you were just distracted enough by the visuals to not notice it?

    VFR turned MVFR turned IMC

That looks like a GoPro Hero Session to me.
