    Electric Airplanes?

Doesn’t all of this make a good case for hybrids? The energy density of gas or diesel and existing infrastructure, reduced noise and increased reliability of the main propulsion motor, regeneration on descent, . . . Somebody do the napkin math on that.

Saw 3 Beech T-34s headed to Sedona

T34 lead: “who’s this yahoo that keeps gettin’ closer to us?” T34 #2: “dunno, maybe he just doesn’t see any of us, might be a newbie” T34 #3: “I’ll hit the smoke to let him know were here” T34 lead:”good grief he’s still comin’ at us - BREAK RIGHT!”

    C172 down in Katy, TX

That was my thought. If he had engine out after takeoff you would hope he wouldn’t have come down that fast trying to put it down, even if he just stalled. It’s a rental out of West Houston, turns out I flew it 4 yrs ago.

Are Planes With Parachutes Really Safer?

Not to (re)start the whole single engine at night debate, but you might want to reread your own writing there a few times, slowly. And at 3500MSL at night in the mountains, have you considered how likely your plan A of finding a safe place to land will work?

Are Planes With Parachutes Really Safer?

So this line of thinking has me trying to find data on the “saves” from AMSAFE airbags. Does anyone have any data? Searched the interwebs but can only find hours flown, number installed etc. As noted, the ride under chute is no picnic, and the vertical descent is more rapid than I would have...

Density altitude and runway length quick guide?

It’s not predictive but a “last check” rule of thumb - the 1/2-2/3 rule = by halfway down the runway you should be at least 2/3 of the airspeed needed to get airborne.

    Min Distance by plane?

K9Medic, please delete your post. No one mentioned cost, only time. Justifying the use of a personal plane (whether owned or rented) is difficult enough as it is and we’re working hard collectively to support each other’s own silly rationalizations for doing so. If you’re going to bring cost...

    Min Distance by plane?

I just did this exercise this morning, coincidentally. Developed an algebraic formula find the distance of a trip required to save at least an hour, door to door, by flying. If I can’t save an hour it’s not worth it. Came out to roughly 250nm in a rented Archer, about 200nm with my former steed...

Looking for data - actual sales of S35, V35/A/B, 2018-2019

I have a need for information on actual sales or purchases of the above models. Will take any volunteers that were on one side of the transaction or the other, but prefer those with low- to mid-time engines, mid-‘70’s or earlier. Transactions that took place any time since Jan 2018 or later...

    2019 Mooney down - DVT

We don’t know why he didn’t bee-line it to KDVT, but he didn’t. Well intentioned controller giving vectors? Likely made the difference. Hope he recovers quickly and fully

Selling an aircraft with a loan

Any reputable escrow service should be able to coordinate that. Find some one before you go to market, connect them with your lender to get payoff information and then go to sell it. Easy peasy.

ATC flow control - is this a joke?

Thread drift Sorry, I guess I’m just a dirty old man but they really need to fix the identifier on that airport. That it’s named after Hillary to boot is just too much. Back to our regularly scheduled program.

Anybody familiar with the Jabiru 3300?

:eek2: I’ve always seen failure rates in hours, usually something like 1 in 100,000. Put this way, that seems a bit more frightening!!
