Foreflight slow on iPad mini6. Anyone else seeing this?

iPad mini 6 here. Last couple weeks ForeFlight has been slow to respond to my inputs. Selecting something or pinching to zoom on the map for example. And no other app is running slow on my iPad. Also, it hasn’t slowed on my iPhone 13.

    GFC 500 question

Certainly get the pitch trim if you want it and can afford it. I was spending quite a bit on a complete avionics/panel upgrade, but elected not to get the pitch trim servo to save a few thousand dollars and to avoid potential repair or replacement down the road. Some may say penny wise and pound...

    G5 Install question

Piper Arrow here. My GMU 11 is in the tail. Installed early 2020. Already had led position lights. Anti-collision light is the strobe type. I haven't had any issues.

    lightspeed headset??

The sticky on the plastic parts is due to a coating on them that sometimes breaks down in hot environments. Lightspeed is aware of this. None of current line of headsets have this issue. There are home remedies like some have mentioned above and that would be your best bet for the 20XL. As far...

    Cherokee 180 to Arrow 180

I own a 68 Arrow and love it. I regularly make 471NM trips to a vacation home we have. Sweet spot for speed is 7000' density altitude. I get 140 KTAS rich of peak and 130 KTAS lean of peak, losing a few knots above and below that DA. I suspect mine is a few knots faster than the typical 180HP...

MDT Class D and TRSA to be replaced by Class C on Jul 11 2024

Here is a list of TRSAs from wikipedia. According to that site, the one I mentioned early in Montgomery is actually based on Maxwell AFB (KMXF), not Montgomery Regional (KMGM). If true, a little odd, although centered on KMXF, it goes to the surface at KMGM and not at KMXF...

With the new ACS rules, is GPS alone sufficient for IR?

I tell all my trainees that I don’t have a single original thought in my head, that I stole all my instructional techniques from someone else, to include posters on this forum!! Only a very slight exaggeration.

With the new ACS rules, is GPS alone sufficient for IR?

I will say that planning an IFR cross-country with a WAAS enabled GPS is easier than the pre-GPS days. No more worrying about service volumes, unusable radials, Navaid notams, getting to a distant navaid from your small, out of the way airport, etc. Not that GPS notams are always presented in a...

With the new ACS rules, is GPS alone sufficient for IR?

Couldn't agree more. Once properly set up and given no changes from ATC, IFR is easier with an IFR GPS. The amount of information provided really enhances situational awareness. Having said that, I also see a lot more mistakes when I give refresher training or IPCs with GPS than I did when...

GFC 500 install quote is outrageous

I've had a GFC 500 in a Piper Arrow since early 2020. 2 axis, no pitch trim servo. My technique to avoid having the pitch servo holding a lot of force throughout the flight. After takeoff, I manually pitch and trim for my climb airspeed, then engage the autopilot to climb at that airspeed (vs...

With the new ACS rules, is GPS alone sufficient for IR?

@midlifeflyer Your explanation has always been my understanding. But I do know of a couple local DPEs that didn’t see it that way. Using those examiners, we’d have to make sure we did 3 different appproaches with differing nav sources. Example VOR ILS RNAV.

With the new ACS rules, is GPS alone sufficient for IR?

In Feb 2022 the FAA put out a memo rescinding the Glaser interpretation (2008) and Pratte interpretation (2012). Previous to this, DPEs would frequently not allow ILS and LOC approaches (as an example) on the long IFR cross country <61.65(d)(2)(ii)(C)> to count as different types of approaches...

    Psoriasis treatment, Otezla

Coworker was recently diagnosed with Psoriasis. His doc wants to prescribe Otezla for treatment. He asked his AME if it is allowed and can’t seem to get a straight answer. Any of the AMEs on here have any info I can provide him? The only thing I’ve found online was a Q&A from AOPA’s Pilot...

What is the most fun "Aviation tool/gear" you've purchased?

Outside of the obvious like avionics upgrades, and not quite aviation specific, but 2 foldable bikes that fit in my baggage compartment.

Do you plan on flying (or traveling in general) to see the eclipse on April 8th?

I'll fly GA (Piper Arrow) just under 500NM. I have a second home and hangar that are in the path of totality. My wife will be with me. Having said that, even if weather conditions won't allow viewing at our destination, we'll still fly there to enjoy a long weekend.

Border security helo down with fatalities 3/10/2024

Current instructor at FT. Novosel (Rucker) here. Autorotations haven’t been taught to the ground in some time. All the helicopters that the students train on are multi-engine. Army regulation prohibits autorotations to the ground in multi-engine helicopters, so all are terminated with power. So...
