Filing IFR routing at my home field

I do this all the time. I don't know if it matters, but I write something like "Round robin for currency" in the comments section. I've heard they don't read comments but I know they do see this, because I've had them say it to me before, such as when picking up the clearance, "Cleared on your...

Why are pilots so hesitant to declare an emergency?

Funny you mention that. I've had two incidents flying that I would consider emergencies, and I've had two times IFR that required missed approaches, and the missed approaches were way more stressful for me also. One scared the bejesus out of me because the AWOS was reporting conditions that...

ILAFFT: Almost Killed my Family on an Instrument Approach

While getting my instrument, my friend and safety pilot used to do something similar to that...when I was flying the approach under the hood, suddenly he needed the pen in my side pocket, or he'd drop the approach plate in the back seat, and ask me to pick it up, or point out something about my...

    I thought I wanted a Mooney...

I called on 3...must have been bad examples, because the best one was 15% less.

    I thought I wanted a Mooney...

I considered the Tiger, but the Arrow was the best for me, considering that their cruise speeds were so close, yet the Arrow I eventually purchased has a 1043 lbs useful load. The tiger couldn't touch that useful.

Would you like that fitered or un-filtered?

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw it too. I used to test my mogas for ethanol. Every now and then, I'd intentionally test some gas that knowingly has ethanol in it as a "control", and it looked just like the OPs photo when I did.

Would you like that fitered or un-filtered?

What does this have to do with paying "a handsome some for an annual"? Glad you caught the water. With that much, there's a chance a person would siphon fuel and only get pure water, thinking its pure fuel.

Want To Buy Whelen SA406 Strobe Tube Assembly

My plane is in with my mechanic right now, getting the whelen strobes replaced with LED models. It should be out of the shop early next week with the wing tip whelen strobes removed. I don't know what model I have, but I'll let you know (they work fine).

ILAFFT: Almost Killed my Family on an Instrument Approach

So all errors are errors of same significance? Sorry, I don't see it that way at all.

ILAFFT: Almost Killed my Family on an Instrument Approach

I agree completely and you expounded on what I meant as well…for me, that first time the op mentioned, during training, would have been the eye opener for me, then the second time? That would have made me feel like it’s too much risk for me (and my family).

ILAFFT: Almost Killed my Family on an Instrument Approach

Have you ever mis-read an approach chart altitude or turn, while flying it? I've made some mistakes, but never one so simple, and twice no less. So what is your number? How many screw ups, on something simple yet deadly, before you either call it quits, or kill yourself and family?

ILAFFT: Almost Killed my Family on an Instrument Approach

Perhaps you and I are reading the post differently. I was under the impression that the op has 1000 hours, but the mistakes are not 1000 hours apart…as your response seems to imply.

ILAFFT: Almost Killed my Family on an Instrument Approach

I read the OP post, and the responses...I'm going to be the opposing viewpoint I guess. Maybe the OP should consider being a VFR only pilot. The OP mentions doing something similar before. So, although I agree not to "beat yourself up", but maybe the lesson here is that IFR isn't for you. We...

    Memorable Resturants on/near field

Oh, almost forgot Merks in Muncie KMIE. Whenever we are southbound, we like to stop there. Looks a little rough on the outside, but great food and super convenient with it being on the ramp, but away from everything else, so you taxi right up.

Yeah I was exaggerating a little...90-120 is me also (and I'm old too).

    Memorable Resturants on/near field

Paddle Inn is about as "home cooked" as I've ever had...good stuff. Be prepared to clean grasshopper guts off the plane (and chlorophyll on the prop from grass) after taxi, if you choose to taxi to the restaurant. Of course, you can also walk there from paved parking if you choose not to...

    New ticket

Congrats! But now you have me thinking...there is a "worse" type of icing? Why? I'm gonna guess that clear is harder to see the danger...??? IDK.

    Camp chairs

My mom bought me two of these for Christmas last year, which I use in the plane...surprisingly comfy (coming from a guy with a bad back/knees), and super light weight. https://www.sportsmans.com/camping-gear-supplies/camp-furniture/chairs-seats-loungers/browning-dakota-camp-chair/p/1233956

    Hello

Welcome! I've never owned a J3, but I did own a Taylorcraft with an A65...fun! Nothing like looking 500 feet down at the interstate and seeing the cars passing you!
