    I tried, I failed

Saying they ran the thread into the weeds is like asking, "Can I paint my plane with a toothbrush?" Then, acting shocked when people ask why or for more detail....

    What to name a Baby

When my son was born, my (now ex) wife asked what I thought of some very ridiculous sounding "new age" names...Brees, Exton, Arlo, etc...I said "nope" to each. Finally, she said, "Well what would you like? AND NO AIRPLANE NAMES!!!" I thought, do I dare? then said, "How about Mitchell?" (BTW...

    I tried, I failed

Perhaps its just confirmation bias, but I hear too many stories like the OPs to make me ever interested in a partnership. Sole ownership is the only way for me to own, otherwise rent/nonequity club.

Glare/Starbursts around bright lights. Can you see them?

I see it. I also tend to get a double image when I look at a bright moon, where I sorta see two moons (I say "sorta" because I see two edges to the moon, not two distinct moons). Yet, I also have fantastic vision and have always been able to out-spot traffic with anyone I fly, so if this is a...

    Headed to Nashville

And another reason to visit Smyrna: they let us use the Smyrna courtesy car to visit the Jack Daniels distillery.

    Headed to Nashville

We love Nashville, and its probably our favorite flying destination. Last year, the day before we were to head down, Tune was hit by a tornado, so we tried Smyrna, and they were fantastic! A slight bit farther from downtown, but not too bad (30 minute Uber). I great nearby flying destination...

    Scary hang glider incident.

What the??? Why didn't he land in that first field, instead of turning down the mountain???

What's the mask/vaccine requirement situation in your area?

Randy, I know your pain. I wear hearing aids too, which help, but I never realized how much I read lips until the mask mandates. I virtually don't understand anyone these days when dealing with the masked. Sometimes its too tiring to constantly ask people to speak up, so most times I just nod...

What's the mask/vaccine requirement situation in your area?

So does mine, since May of 2020...and my fellow employees and I haven't worn a mask at work even a single time, so the word "requires" is not taken seriously. We're all retirees working at our second career, and we could all walk from the job on a whim, so they haven't pushed us.

    Scary hang glider incident.

Been on a youtube kick recently, and came across this video. My first experience with piloting my own craft was when I was in high school, after I bought my own hang glider. I grew up in the Michigan flat-land area, so most of my flights were 30 seconds or less off of an old abandon ski hill...

    Piper Arrow gear question

Thanks, got it to a mechanic this morning, and it’s being checked as we speak…problem is, alternator worked on takeoff, then quit, so I shut off the master. Then on landing, I turned on the master and it worked for most of the landing, then quit on taxi. Intermittent problems I know can be...

    Piper Arrow gear question

Third major problem in 2 weeks (vacuum pump shattered two weeks ago and a mag imploded last week)…I don’t know how many more times I can tell my girlfriend we’re “getting the bugs out” before I stop believing it myself.

    Piper Arrow gear question

I just two weeks ago practiced a few emergency gear extensions by pulling the fuse on the pump, then doing the emergency gear extension as described in the manual. My gear actually went down quicker/ better / smoother with the emergency extension than the normal extension, so I’m not over...

    Piper Arrow gear question

So I’m on a cross country, landed in the middle of nowhere for gas, and on restart noticed I have some sort of failure in my alternator/ charging system (0 on the alt meter /don’t have a volt meter). It’s currently dark out so I’m grounded for the night, and I’m thinking that getting a mechanic...

Why do they always call me Skyhawk?

I've jokingly corrected ATC when they've called my Piper a Cessna...I'll respond, "Was that call for PIPER 1234?"

Books that would have/would have changed your aviation experience

Yes, yes I do, and the "real" statistics seem to agree. There is very little difference in the rate of danger based upon pilot hours, it more about WHAT mistake or problem(s) kills the low hours vs high hour pilots that makes a difference.

Why do they always call me Skyhawk?

I used to fly a tri-Q2. I've gotten "biplane", "canard", and even "thing on taxiway alpha".

Books that would have/would have changed your aviation experience

Gotta give a -1 for "the killing zone". The author's math has been proven to be seriously flawed, which then flaws his whole premise of a "killing zone". I would normally say that any book that you can learn from, and improve your flying, is a good one, but that guy is so completely full of...

Books that would have/would have changed your aviation experience

"Changing my aviation experience", as you put it... In the Shadow of Eagles: From Barnstormer to Alaskan Bush Pilot, a Flier's Story After reading, I sold my zippy little experimental and bought a tailwheel "bush plane".

Looking for advice from Bonanza 35 owners current or previous

What amazes me is that the lack of magnesium ruddervators hasn't depressed the 35 market that much. Granted, 33s of the same year/condition/equipment typically go for more, but not much more. Compare that to the plummeting arrow market, right after the embry riddle crash, which to me isn't as...
