Planning for IR in 1-2yrs, suggestions?

Your own plane, or rental, doesn’t matter much (it was cheaper though in my own plane). Wait, or not, I don’t think matters much either…I waited 24 years. I found it ridiculously easy, but also downright boring and tedious, maybe because I waited idk. Oh, and the rating didn’t save me so much...

    DPE Harrison MacNaughton

Or….you could use your time studying so you know the material for YOUR write up and worry less about his write ups.

Check my math.. our my cost estimates accurate.

I agree. I always kept $10k just for my cherokee, not included in any house or family emergency fund...but then, I'm the "when it breaks, fix it" type of owner that won't allow even the carpet to have so much as a rip. I did once need to dip into that fund when I had some engine problems...

Shopping for a pocket sized digital camera

I second the G7 (although I have the latest/greatest Mark III, which only adds direct streaming to the internet for bloggers). My work just bought me the G7, and its a very nice little camera...small enough to put in a pocket, yet still has a very good mechanical zoom instead of just a digital...

No GPS Instrument Checkride in 2021?

Nice write up. I also got my instrument rating without an IFR GPS, in 2018...dare I say, I think it was actually easier that way. Over the next three years, I then flew about 100 hours in instrument conditions, including several major cross country flights, without an IFR GPS (or DME, or...

    Value of old pilot logbooks?

I'm trying to understand this, but I must be missing something... You filled a log book to half full, flying from 197X to 1998, but you only have 120 hours total...????? Does your typical flight last .2 hours or something? As an example of my own flying, I've filled 1 log book, just started...

Noice! I always liked the Musketeer.

    Wintergreen Chewing Tobacco - DUI

I'm retired now, but for 28 years, I was a cop / detective in a bar town. Literally HUNDREDS of times, I've heard people say, "I can't be that drunk, I only had 3 drinks." When I was investigating the numerous alleged rapes that come with a bar town, I probably heard victims say that at least...

    My New(ish) Ride

Wow, 20 more hp, that's a cross country machine, finally faster than the cars below! Nice, looks like fun.

I might be in violation of 47.41

I’ve done a little research, and it seems ignoring this letter only delays things for the next owner. The guy that bought my plane seems like a genuinely nice guy,so I’ll write a letter back in response.

I might be in violation of 47.41

Wow, now I really MUST ignore it, just so when asked, "What are you in for?" I can respond, "Failing to return my aircraft registration certificate."

I might be in violation of 47.41

Got a rather strongly worded letter from the FAA telling me I "may" be in violation of 47.41. I have sold numerous aircraft, and I didn't even know, until this most recent sale, that this existed: § 47.41 Duration and return of Certificate. (a) Each Certificate of Aircraft Registration, AC...

    Engine out at night

If I'm flying in the Michigan thumb area (think endless farmland), I'm aiming for the dark spot. If I'm flying in the wilds of Michigan's upper peninsula, I'm going for the lit area (if there even is one). Some urban areas...good luck finding a dark spot.

Same. "Dream Job" sounds like an oxymoron.

    Flying overweight

Flying UNDER weight can be scary sometimes...fly 100 lbs under on a hot hot day, for example.

Nope, not when they don't look purdy.

    Aircraft Paint Value

Yup, then it goes from pending back to for sale when they do see it.

    Aircraft Paint Value

They are only buying sight unseen when they are cherry. When they are not, they are the ones you see listed pending, then back for sale, then pending, then back for sale...one plane I saw went "pending" about a half dozen times so far. Its now back to "for sale".

    Aircraft Paint Value

As someone who just sold, then bought, in this market, I completely disagree with posts above...you will get your money back out if you paint it. This market is insane. Clean planes, newly painted planes, and planes without squawks sell in minutes right now, for absolute top dollar. I sold...
