    uAvionics Tail Beacon

It’s an FAA issue. Per the uAvionix website it’s still pending TSO certification.

    uAvionics Tail Beacon

I was able to snag a rebate today. They made you select which hardware you were installing, so I put down the GDL 82. Hopefully the tailbecon comes out before my rebate expires and I can switch hardware, otherwise I guess I'll just install the GDL 82. I already have a GTX327, so this might be...

    Sick of avionics shops!

I'd love to do that but Echo UAT is only good for light sport/experimental

How much oil burn is too much?

I like his webinars, but damn he talks slow. Never thought to speed them up. Good tip.

    Manually Filtering Oil?

Well regardless of the argument above, I'm going to wait because it's roughly a 2 week project for me, even with a favorable IA I have that lets me do most of the work. I think I'll stick with the 25hr oil changes for now and just drain it through a paint filter to see if it catches any metal.

    Best flashlight for A&P?

I bought a couple of these. They occasionally go on sale for $5. Super bright, have a magnetic bottom and the batteries last longer than I need. https://www.harborfreight.com/215-lumen-magnetic-pocket-work-light-63935.html

    Manually Filtering Oil?

The engine didn't get much use before I bought the airplane, so I expected some corrosion, and I imagine it'll slowly go down as I fly it more often.

    Manually Filtering Oil?

I'll quote what I wrote above since it seems to have been missed:

    Manually Filtering Oil?

See my response above, my install isn't as straight forward.

    Manually Filtering Oil?

I'm waiting until the annual because the airplane is still new to me, the first 3-4 months I've had alot of down time due to maintenance and I'm finally stable and airborne, I want to enjoy that before it goes down again. The kit I'm installing is the remote mount and that will require a little...

    Manually Filtering Oil?

My engine doesn't have an oil filter. I'll be adding one at some point, likely at the next annual, but in the meantime I'll probably run up another 100-150 hours. Is there any benefit to draining the oil every 10-15 hours and filtering it before returning it to the engine? Or will that just risk...

    Best site to buy oil?

The local pilot shop charges $80 OTD for a case of Aeroshell W100, but I haven't been able to get a decent deal on Phillips XC 20w-50 yet, seems like shipping or tax kills whatever deal you can find. I can drive to Spruce and pick it up, but then it's about $75-$80 with tax. I found Amazon...

    ForeFlight vs. Garmin Pilot

I've been flying with FF forever. Now that I have an Aera600 I'm giving GP a try, we'll see how it works out. You can't compare Apple's top of the line to the mid-low level android. I paid $300 for my 128GB iPad Mini 4. It works perfectly. I've had several android devices in the past, and...

    C120 Avionics Upgrades

When I did the initial install on the system, I wired everything up for the GPS but didn't buy it. Finally pulled the trigger on the Garmin Aera 660, WOW, this thing is awesome. It drives heading info to the G5 (both on the PFD and HSI), can fly RNAV approaches, it has synthetic vision, can...

    C120 Avionics Upgrades

Ha, they are leftover marker beacons. There should be 3 but I pulled one when I relocated the parking brake to make room for more breakers. Will eventually ditch the last two, just want to make sure I have something to put in their place. It's not too bad using the transponder from the left...

    C120 Avionics Upgrades

Sorry not the best photo, but I think it illustrates what I'm doing. You can buy the little clips for cheap, as you can see I use them to hold up the controller as well: https://www.sportys.com/pilotshop/bose-clothing-clip.html

    C120 Avionics Upgrades

Yes, quite a bit actually. I'll take a photo when I go flying later today, but basically I used one of the clips that come with the bose headsets to clip the cord to the shoulder harness, that way it doesn't tug. I think mounting the controller up where I did helps with that as well.

    C120 Avionics Upgrades

Thanks guys, even though it was restored, this thing has been a project. Since I got it I've had to install a new transponder, exhaust, alternator swap and now the avionics. Next thing on my list is to ditch these pesky wheel extenders.
