Looking to replace my two mags with overhauled units. ACS offers Kelly O/H units for ~$200 less than Aircraft Magneto Service. I know AMS offers a 500hr warranty and does great work, but $200 extra each is getting a little steep. Anyone have experience with the Kelly O/H mags? Worth considering?

I would get a used Garmin GTX327. I got mine off ebay with an 8130 for $350. Very easy to install and rock solid reliable.

I have nearly all craftsman, but lately I've been switching over to Tekton. They make really nice stuff and I love their no skip socket sets. While not made in america they are engineered here.

I would be interested if you could hook up a handheld like the Yaesu 550 to com 2.

I had the same issue when I made a new breaker panel for my airplane. My A&P spent a ton of time trying to do it by hand, and in the end I ended up just CADing it up and having a machine shop make it.

I added one to my Cessna 120 linked to an Aera660. I'm VFR only and I love it. Is it overkill? Probably, but I like the capability it adds and I feel safer in the case of night VFR or getting caught in IMC which I hope never happens.

What's your budget like? There are a few good ones in SoCal but they are $$. I use an independent guy for my avionics. The 175 doesn't require a certified garmin installer but the G5s do, so you may be roped into the $$ regardless.

I'm installing a 700 on my 120 soon, it actually looks pretty straight forward. I bought it used with all the probes for a bargain. Mine has CHT/EGT, carb temp and fuel flow. As far as I can tell you install a couple probes, route them to the firewall and plug everything in.

For $195 you can get a replacement remote with dual plugs and a new mic. ($295 if you want bluetooth). It might solve your problems. If it doesn't you can probably return it within a 30 day window. You might be able to sell off the old one to recoup some of that cost...

Sounds easy enough to diagnose. If it's past the rings can just the rings be changed? Or does the entire cylinder need to go out?
