    Time for an Eng. Overhaul?

I have a Lyc IO-360 with 1400 hours SMOH. I was told by the shop that there is wear on the cam lobe inside the crank case and I need to replace the cam shaft. After talking to the shop, I have 2 choices... First, I can do a complete engine overhaul. Second is to split the shell and have a new...

    Larger Aspen on the horizon?

I have 2 aspens in one plane, and a G500 in another. I've only ever had 1 issue with my PFD and the screen would flash every 30 minutes or so. That was after 5 years. I contacted aspen and they replaced it at no cost. Because there's no plumbing like my G500 has, they just removed the PFD and...

    Long XC in Cessna 150?

C150 was my first plane. Flew it coast-to-coast many times and flew 1100 mile one-way trips (2200mi roundtrip) once a month... Doable, but now, anything slower than M0.82 is too slow :)

    is this fair?

I'm glad someone finally caught the joke! Is it bad that's the first thing I thought about when he wrote allegiant?

Can someone tell me the reasoning behind the "Call for price" listings?

One time I called and the seller asked "What do YOU think the plane is worth". So I gave an honest answer based off bluebook value. The seller gave me multiple reasons why it was worth more including his mechanic is one of the best and you can't put a price on that. I have never wasted my time...

    Instructor/School in No. Virginia

I've had good luck with Dulles Aviation (At HEF) and American Aviation. AVAD def has the biggest presence but I've been extremely disappointed with their scheduling availability at HEF location. Just my opinion. Good luck.

    7600 is not for VFR

I was using FF the other day and lost center while flying through a mountainous area. I ended up finding a nearby class D frequency, told them the tail number and to relay that i was cancelling FF, he came back a couple minutes later with a message from center that they greatly appreciated it...

Things I’ve learned as a captain after a month

We also have a 2 minute cool down. I see people using idle reverse all the time, never heard of it being an issue until now. I will say one time, a CRJ-200 in the block was trying to get around an B737-800 which was also in the block. They went into reverse and powered back to get around it...

Things I’ve learned as a captain after a month

When I was an FO, i had a captain tell me to look at the right wingtip. Then he said "everything left of that is mine". Then I had captains that told me to shut up and wait to be told what to do. That kind of waiting to be told what to do (like wait to be told to do a checklist) didn't make me...

    Cirrus vs A36

I completely agree. I can't help but think about the ERAU arrow that lost its wing, or the Cirrus SR22 mid-air collision back in 2014 near Frederick, MD which pulled the chute and was able to survive. Having a second engine doesn't make any difference in both cases, but having a chute does. You...

Complying with an AD via SB?

I'm a pilot, not a mechanic. I didn't know what a principal maintenance inspector was until now. I'm just trying to use this to negotiate the price of this plane down, or maybe just walk away from it. I'd like to help the owner out nevertheless since he's a good guy. I just found another AD...

Complying with an AD via SB?

Bob, do you know where I can find a source to prove that an A&P must make such wording? When it comes to dealing with the FAA which I do on a regular basis, a legal paper trail is very important

Complying with an AD via SB?

Thank you Bob. Thats what I had figured. So does that mean this aircraft has been un airworthy for the past 40 years then?

Complying with an AD via SB?

Even if it was done before the AD was released? Ok, interesting.. i learned something new

Complying with an AD via SB?

Yes. Then in the "AD Compliance Section" of the logbook it has the AD number and says "previously complied with via SB(number)" but there's no signature or date or anything associated with that entry. I guess they want you to refer to the SB for that information but I would think the moment an...

Complying with an AD via SB?

It says "Compliance required within the next 25 hours time in service after the effective date of this AD unless already accomplished." Then at the very bottom it says "Service Bulletin (number) pertains to this subject". So does that mean AD doesn't need a sign off? I always thought once an...

Complying with an AD via SB?

I'm sorry. Yes I read the AD. Nowhere does it say you may comply with the AD via the SB, it just says "Service Bulletin (number) pertains to this subject".

Complying with an AD via SB?

I'm looking through the logbook of an aircraft that I'm interested in purchasing. In the very front of the book is a section for AD's that can be found in the logbook if you keep flipping. For example, the very first AD in the AD section is related to the fuel system, and if i keep flipping I...
