Well here goes nothing...career change about to begin

    1) Best of luck to you! 2) Just curious, why PSA? They are forcing upgrades as soon as you hit 950 hours part 121, you'll get displaced to ORF, and you might flow to mainline before ever holding a line again (very long reserve times as a captain). There are FO's that have gone to Long Call...

    Single Piece Panel

I want to put a single piece panel in my plane. The local avionics shop quoted me $15k and that just seems higher than it should be. They said they order the panel from a vendor and they install it. Can anyone please recommend a shop for doing the single piece panel? The aircraft is a PA28...

Is announcing our tail number necessary?

I can't argue with that. But whose enforcing it? The point i'm trying to make is tail numbers don't enhance safety and when you're in a busy pattern, sometimes saying less is more. We never use our tail number with our jet. We use a dotcom callsign with ATC, and otherwise at an uncontrolled...

Is announcing our tail number necessary?

That's where common sense comes in as i stated above. I don't care so much about color unless its something distinct like a bright yellow plane. If you're the only bright yellow plane in a very busy pattern, then say so! But if there's 2 blue and white cessnas and you're both on downwind...

Is announcing our tail number necessary?

Exactly. I can't remember the tail numbers of 6 planes in the pattern. What I can remember however is someone said there's a skyhawk on final, so if i'm looking at a low wing, something doesn't add up

Is announcing our tail number necessary?

or "Bonanza on upwind, you've got a challenger taking off, we'll pass off your right" works too. What if i get your tail number wrong and you think its meant for someone else?

Is announcing our tail number necessary?

What does 23V do for you? I'm just curious because maybe i'm missing something and i'd be happy to learn. For me, when I say "Challenger jet on left downwind", that's all you need to know. My tail number is pointless. I could make up a tail number technically, but i'm not sure how that adds to...

Is announcing our tail number necessary?

I dont understand the point in saying "Cessna 23V". I can't see "23V" I care about: 1) Where are you (ex: downwind) 2) Anything else important (ex: number 2 on downwind) This is where common sense comes in. If you're a high wing and you have a cherokee in front of you, saying "high wing"...

Is announcing our tail number necessary?

For me, it depends on many factors. Is the pattern busy? Are you the only one there? Is there 2 high wings in the pattern and you're the only low wing? If so "cherokee on downwind" helps the other 2 high wing guys more than "N123AB on downwind" Some people dont know types like what a...

(UPDATE-BOUGHT A PLANE)Airplane NEWB - May need a plane for business, help me find the best option

Piper Lance (6 seats, very spacious for the whole family! More space than an A36 bonanza) Columbia 300/350 (4 seats, fast!) (Columbia 400 even faster, with air conditioning as an option, utility category w/ dual wing spars) Piper Comanche (great bang for the buck, cheaper than a...

T storms and flight planning. What level is too high for you?

The benefit to going higher is you can get above some of the lower clouds and see whats towering and it makes it easier to see and avoid the bad stuff. Down low, all the clouds look the same and you don't know whats bad and whats not unless you have a real weather radar (not talking about xm)

T storms and flight planning. What level is too high for you?

I've always believed in going high. Down low, there's more clouds and you don't know whats 'just a cloud' and whats associated with the storm. You have more of a chance of being in IMC down low. When you're above most of the lower level clouds, you have more real estate to work with and just...

    Time for an Eng. Overhaul?

For those interested, I was quoted: 1) Repair of the cam shaft: $12,500. Does not include if they find anything worn when they split the case 2) Engine Overhaul cheapest $27,800, highest $31,500 3) Option I'm probably going with: $35,257 for a Lycoming IO-360 Factory Rebuild (2,200TBO). Down...

    Elliptical vs Square Prop Tip?

So the square blades provide more power? So if i want speed, square is better than rounded prop tip?

    Elliptical vs Square Prop Tip?

Looking at different propeller options.. I did a google search but wanted to ask the experts here at POA. . 1) Is there a benefit to having an elliptical (round) vs square propeller tip? 2) Would it be worth adding a 3 blade propeller to my Piper Arrow III instead of 2? 3) Someone mentioned a...

    Time for an Eng. Overhaul?

Update: The pitting is on a single cam lobe... The quote I was given to only replace the cam shaft was not too far from an overhaul cost. They also said once they open the case, if they have to replace bearings and things like that, it'll probably be very close to a overhaul. So i guess overhaul...

    Time for an Eng. Overhaul?

    1) As a buyer, would you value a factory reman over a well known shop field overhaul? 2) This is a Piper Arrow III 3) I"m starting to think overhaul the engine and then try to sell right away and get most of my money back from the overhaul?
